I can't see how they keep talking about wanting to change the team's toxic culture but not remove the guy most responsible for it.

smith has enabled the australian team culture as much as anyone but it's a case of him being skipper when the music stopped tbh and he's copped the punishment of a CEO and cricket board desperate to hide their own weakness.

if CA really wanted to tidy up the rougher edges of the side then where have they been since ponting resigned as skipper? where were they when waugh brought in mental disintegration and childishly thought of cricket as war?

I feel for Smith and Bancroft.

Not really for Warner and in time I won't for Lehmann.

But at the end of the day CA wouldn't have to deal with this **** if they got to the badly festering team culture sooner. Now they trying to look proactive to ball tampering or cheating. What ****s.

Every cricketing nation has it's elements that would make you not want to play for them.

With India, it's the state-ism and not being able to speak up against the big stars.

With England it's the rigidity of the culture.

With the Proteas it's the quota system.

With Aus it's the fact that because sport is such a big part of the culture there, they expect a lot from you.

Is Lehman really racist or did he just say something that was racist. Because I don't think a racist would be so keen on picking Khawaja and Agar as much as Lehman does.
Honestly, his Sri Lanka thing didn't cross my mind much during this fiasco. His Broad thing before the ashes was worse though I used to hate the guy more rhan I do now.

I wonder if it's going to sink in to CA and the media and public who think this is the right course of action how serious it actually is? This whole thing could damage the team for a long time. Certainly a strong coach and captain are needed, but I'm not seeing who could step up, especially for the latter.

I think I'm going to reply to James Sutherlands emails and point him to this thread so he knows what cricket fans are thinking.......you know the ones that still go to test matches and buy the merchandise. Instead of pandering to the masses who just watch cricket on the 6 o'clock news maybe listen to the people that, you know.........fill the CA coffers.

Like Mickey Arthur?
fair. all right then, a good man manager could do it.

ultimately warner's a grown man who is responsible for his own actions, but equally his coach is a middle aged man asking crowds to bully a bloke for not walking. the team is ridiculous sometimes.

The people that fill the CA coffers are who they are currently negotiating with - Channel Nine, Channel Ten and Fox Sports.

The unsung victim of all this: Alex Carey. Kid was set to be Australia's wicket keeper imminently with Tim Paine just a quick fill-in. Now Paine is Test captain, and could very possibly keep the job and Carey's career going to be set back years.

Maybe, maybe not.... but part of the issue here is Aus lost its domination, the team now is just not as good as the team the, which changes the complexion on your behaviour. I could forgive that old Aus team for is arrogance and condensation because they were good enough to have earned it. I think that after that 10+ year of domination Aus (and public) started believing their own press. Everytime they lose a test or series it is like the end of the world, rather than just accepting that sometimes your team may not be as good at the moment as it was in the past. That mindset starts creating more pressure and more aggressiveness, because it can't be accepted that maybe the opposition could be better than you. And then leads to extreme reactions when things go wrong....

Australia's next one year schedule

1. Tour of England (5 ODI, 1 T20) - June
2. Tour of Zimbabwe (1 Test, 3 ODI) - July
3. Home -Bangladesh (2 Test, 3 ODI) - August
4. Tour of UAE - Pakistan (5 ODI, 1 T20)- October
5. Home - South Africa (5 ODI, 3 T20) - November
6. Home - India (4 Test) - December
7. Home - Sri Lanka (2 Test, 3 ODI) - January 2019
8. Tour of India ( 5 ODI, 3 T20) - February
9. Tour of UAE - Pakistan (3 Test) - March

Thats 12 Tests, 29 ODIs and 8 T20s. Add IPL (not sure if they'll be able to participate).

CA what have you done??
Huh. Bangladesh are playing Tests in Australia in August? Never knew it was possible to play cricket in Australia in August.

Anyway, a 2 match ban for the trio would have been perfect. They're in no frame of mind to play this series anyway and missing Zimbabwe would have been no big deal. Come back reasonably contrite in August and everyone moves on.

Let's all enjoy playing against a team captained by a twice convicted ball tamperer on Friday and whose opening bowler is another ball tall tamperer

Cherry on top: gala dinner in England with 2005 ball tamperer followed by another ball tamperer arriving here next summer

Yippee

It's funny how with the Rabada thing people/media were talking about how it would be grievously damaging test cricket for an exciting player to miss one test, whereas people/media (note: not necessarily the same people) were absolutely baying for the blood of two of test cricket's biggest drawcards and wanted them banned for a much longer period.

Northern Australia runs on a wet and dry season rather than a summer and winter.

I don't think the tour will go ahead though.

Strange and sad scenes as Steve Smith learns his fate, hugs players goodbye and then walks out with suitcase behind him.
