***Official*** England in New Zealand 2018

Super, wonderful win. Best part was after day one, when the usual suspects had done the damage, nearly everyone else did their bit - Nicholls, Watling with the gloves, Wagner and Astle at the end. England generally short of a gallop but still quality opposition so a win to be savoured.
Quality opposition? Just to repeat again... 58. All out. Fifty-f##king-eight all out.

But with the weather shortening it it definitely turned into a top match, and really well played New Zealand. Looking forward to the second test for sure!

Well Broad indeed gave a witty press-con last night at the expense of Australia but Australia didn't lose by an innings at least

Engllish bowlers are now sitting next to Bangladesh as the only teams to average over 50 in away tests in the last one and half year (the bigger surprise being the usually 'lousy tourists' India dominating the pack with an average of 24!).

Some soul searching needed for them. Stokes playing as a pure batsman (regardless of today's innings) is a bit of a joke and so is Moeen's presence as anything in the XI. Almost everyone got a start today but nobody could sustain it suggestive of a mental issue than a technical one, no more evident in their captain's 50 to 100 conversion ratio.

Not the worst from a side who can't buy a Test match either home or away.

Dear NZ cricket, if they all have do be day/night tests, then ****** do it...as long as we get more Test cricket.

Just did a dip through statsguru. England's well.. Englandish performance in the last year and half in away matches reveals some startling ennui:

Moeen Ali has played in all 11 of them, and has averaged 85 with the ball
Chris Woakes played in 8 of them, averaging over 65
Anderson and Broad in 9 of them, averaging 32 and 39 respectively.

I can understand if it's a case of one series. But over one and half years, despite such terrible underperformance, England is still putting up with such low performers? Surely it can't be that they are lacking talent in county cricket ffs?

I have no idea why we are persevering with Woakes, he isn't good enough and shouldn't be in the side. The fact we haven't made changes after the ashes shows how arrogant or thick depending on your point of view that our management team and selectors are. This shower have underperformed for too long, get rid and blood a new team.

I mean, England will probably change their attack for the next Test and leave the batting exactly the same. It's just how it works when you're bowled out for 58.

(Watched Livingstone and Vince in the nets for a while yesterday - the former looked really good.)

is there better? england have gone through a lot of openers, malan can bat and cook/root/stokes/bairstow should obviously be there.

probably just add the extra batsman if stokes is fit and drop overton.

englands biggest bowling issue when they come to nz is they always bowl too short. anderson and broad were guilty of this last tour as well.

So many truths here its unavoidable.

It's time England re-evaluate the balance of their team. Trying to copy their one-day success with players who do a bit of both doesn't cut it at test level. It may work the odd series but to be a good team over a period of time you can't be carrying individuals.

Whilst this is mainly an attack on the bowlers it has been an evident issue for some time and proven again in this test.

The least said about the batting the better. The intent thing seems to have died down but it really has been an issue of quality of depth for some time now. We keep seeing new guys tested and failing and the change of selection process will hopefully get a better idea of talent more capable of making the step up than just a batch of form getting them in or T20 cricket.

Well done to the Kiwi's though !!

Still can compete at test level with the top 4 quite easily. Feel you've got to work to beat them still and are capable of getting on top of you with their quality if you slightly off.

Livingstone should have been in the ashes and Vince shouldn't have made either squad but that is for another day.
