Australian Domestic Season 2017/18

Bowlers with 20 wickets at under 30 for both 2016/17 and the current season:

Tremain 42 wkts @ 18.97 & 43 @ 21.65
Boland 29 @ 27.62 & 36 @ 25.61
Feldman 23 @ 23.21 & 33 @ 20.03
Add in 15/16:
Tremain 36 @ 21.05
Boland 33 @ 20.93

in 14/15 Boland just missed out 25 @ 30.12.

That's pretty excellent from the Victorian pair.

Renshaw
15/16 738 @ 43.41 (40.95)
16/17 198 @ 49.50 (53.95)
17/18 678 @ 42.37 (54.19)

I've added in his strike rate just to show the increase from his first full season.

Tom Cooper always gets dropped from the Redbacks team at the end of a season, we always think it's the end of the line for him, and then he gets called up into the List A team the following year, makes a ton, and survives a bit longer.

The wheel is forever.

Pretty amazing that it's close to 20 years now in the Sheffield Shield since two of the six sides involved (WA & SA) have actually won it.

West Australia's record is even more curious in that they've never finished bottom in all those years; however that might change this year.

Renshaw out for eight, WA lose a wicket in the first over, Doolan failing. It's an 'early wicket' sort of morning. Notably, everyone's chosen to bowl.

Did you know there are only 3 batsman who have scored over 400 runs and averaged 40 in both the 2016/17 season and 2017/18 seasons.

Marcus Harris 808 @ 42.52 & 681 @ 45.40
Jo Burns 724 @ 40.22 & 514 @ 57.11
Travis Head 645 @ 43 & 660 @ 47.14

Probably surprising to some is that Aaron Finch is almost there (581 @ 52.82 & 479 @ 39.91).
or put in a slightly different way, that doesn't screw Bailey or Turner... :D

When your first choice attack is literally the Test attack, your best bowler outside of that spends half the season injured, and you have a bloke retire mid-season, it does lend itself to that slightly. But still...

The bit that confuses me the most is the constant rotation between Stobo/Edwards/Sandhu/Conway/Abbott in the second half of the season. It just doesn't make any real sense. It's like they've each got a fifth of a dartboard and they throw two darts before naming the team list. And in Round 6 the second dart landed right on a line so they picked both of 'em to be fair.

ftr they have held on to #IndiaTheory for the whole team though. Cowan retirement means they made a change for this match, right?

Yeah Maddinson is in for him.

It just sunk in that Cowan never did get that First Class wicket he always wanted, too. Had a good chance a couple of games ago when he bowled all those overs but took 0/62. Sad.

I blame NSW's selectors for picking six or seven bowlers in every game, and Hobart's groundsman for ensuring no innings went long enough during Cowan's Tassie career to require a sixth bowler. His leggies weren't terrible at all.
