Confirmed: Rabada banned for two matches

If Lyon & Marsh had just gotten fines I would agree there's a strange disconnect in the punishments but they both got docked a point and if they get docked three more points in the next couple of years they miss a Test; in other words if they got in a physical confrontation they would get a 3 point penalty which would lead to a suspension.

I actually think cricketers and admin haven't realised until this series how strict the new behavioural codes are. If they were just fines they would be largely ignored but being on the edge of a suspension for even a minor incident as Warner is for the next two years is a much more significant deterrant than whatever fine could be dished out to him.

And fwiw, I also think getting docked a point for just letting out an audible obscenity is excessive; it should only really be if there's abrasive behavour with the opposition and umpires.

It was because of physical contact which the cricket authorities (rightly imo) see as a total no-no and needs to never even mildly be tolerated. It's what got Gautam Gambhir suspended during the 2008 series against Australia when he elbowed Shane Watson deliberately (after Watson was sledging him) while running between the wickets (I think it was his second incident involving that). And that was under the old system where you had to behave pretty badly to get a suspension of any kind.
I`m sorry I don`t see it as deliberate physical contact by Rabada on Smith... I see a slight brush as the 2 walk past each other, no more instigated by Rabada than Smith. But Rabadas record, and Smiths reaction created a 'deliberate' physical contact scenario. But a nice subjective issue, determined by an obviously irritated Jeff Crowe.

But this is what the discussion is about, dropping a ball next to a player and just missing, becomes the equivalent of 'audible' swearing... does not seem to equate. Then the jump becomes physical.... so the behaviour becomes as long as you don't make physical contact or confrontation then its one demerit? But then why did Warner get 3 demerits? So its starts becoming arbitrary to me.. it feels like we will judge the action on some unspecified subjective scale or unspecified 'moral' code.

By the way, in no way am I condoning Rabadas behaviour, I am just question the subjective nature of the system...

I just actually looked up the level 1, 2, 3 of the ICC player code of conduct... and it amazes me the cross over between what behaviour is considered level 1,2,3. (By the way throwing a ball in or near a player starts at level 2!) But in effect level 1 is minor, level 2 is serious and level 3 is very serious!. And if you swearing in a very serious aggressive manner you can get charged level 3. But minor swearing is level one!.... can somebody show me the objective scale of minor, serious, very serious! Green, Amber, Red here we come...

Level 4 is overwhelmingly serious...

My issue is with kg's slight touch being worth the same amount of points as Warner trying to physically assault qdk..
Sorry but if kg's actions are worth 3 then Warner should have gotten 9...

He didn't alter his course, Stefan. Inexcusable.

I hope CSA hires some big suits to bat for them. If anything, Rabada is actually making way at the last instant to avoid Smith, the way you do on a crowded street at the state fair. Smith's distinctly unmanly reaction in the aftermath is ample evidence he was out to get the best fast bowler on show banned for the remainder of the series.

I'm not sure about the rest of humanity but I find it exceedingly easy to not brush by people, even in busy streets. And I find the normal reaction for anyone having experienced contact is to turn and look at the culprit. Some of you are really trying to find conspiracy in Smith's actions where there is none.

Our city trains are busy too *****

Stop defending Rabada
i've gone from defending Rabada back to bashing the #CheatingAussies instead itbt

Attempting to feign a shoulder barge in order to get Rabada banned for the rest of series sounds exactly like something Steve Smith would do tbh

Rabada's left shoulder moves back in order to avoid Smith before contact. Meanwhile Smith doesn't do the same. Why isn't Smith charged? #cheatingaussies

If anything greater punishment should lie with Smith. He's padded up and armed with the bat. Why would Rabada want to barge into him and incite a brawl? If anything Smith should have changed course to avoid contact.
