***Official*** India in South Africa 2017/18

This should have been an easy 300 for 3 or 4 for SA with a ****-load of free runs to come tomorrow when the demoralised bowlers throw pies all day. Only thing keeping India in the game is SA's utter stupidity, and I think India are ahead now.

He probably is, that first runout was genuinely brilliant. Just grumbling about the cliche.

The second runout was complete comedy, mind you.

India are the team ahead. It will take a big effort from Maharaj and kg to help faf get them team to 350/400. Can't expect much from morkel & ngidi in terms of batting here.

Hopefully the taller SA bowlers can get more out of the pitch.

Big test for India, need to wrap this up sharpish, South Africa get past 350 they will be in charge .[/cliche]

I do think people are overestimating the flatness of this pitch; the new ball did seam a bit but the Indian bowlers were not consistent. When the ball got old and soft India (while trying) had nobody that could really push top speeds and hustle the batsmen, which SA do have. And I expect for SA to get the old ball to start reversing by the 40th over... and hopefully the pitch does quicken up. Newlands on the first and 4th mornings was an extreme. This pitch is more lifeless than SA would like, but is not a life less road. SA still need to ideally get to 350+ though.

I'd have definitely taken 260-6 at the start of the day. Felt a bit like the recent Sydney Test where England were doing alright at 230-3 or so before Root/Bairstow/Malan threw it away at the end of the day.

Why do the Indian players do that "smelling the armpit" thing when they are celebrating a wicket?

Was this pitch unentertaining just because it helped spin a bit? Come on. I actually thought it did a bit for the pacers at times, but Bumrah and Shami bowled trash. I expect SA to get much more out of it.

Feel like the posting in this thread has reduced a lot this test compared to first test. Due to Steyn missing?
Could be because Indian fans had hope they'd finally do something away from home but once that hope was swiftly kicked into touch they've given up until the IPL and the next run of home series.

No, it was unentertaining because it did very little with regards to either spin or pace. There was not much of the ball spinning to write home about too, and if it spun more I'd have had no problems. Maybe I am just disappointed after how great the Newlands pitch was. Every ball that test was an event.

Here every wicket that fell was actually a surprise during what were flat periods of play.
