***Official*** 4th Test at the MCG

What's the record for most dismissals of one batsmen from the same bowler in a series? Moeen's got out to Lyon 6 times now I think?
McGrath had Atherton on toast in one series and Alderman I'm sure had an opener (Gooch?) as a bunny in a series in the 80s. Not being wise after the event but I posted before the first test that Lyon was made to bowl at Ali and would cause him more problems than the seamers. The way he plays spin works well with horizontal movement but leave him vulnerable to someone who can generate variable bounce.

Cook played some solid D last night. I was expecting England to have maybe hit a few more home runs but they did well.

Starc was pitching really well in the last game, I feel like if he was playing he could have induced some foul balls from England.

If Australia can strike out Anderson early then this could get interesting. From what I have seen watching IPL, Warner is a player that loves to play great offence. He could yet make a match of this, he finds so much real estate to hit the ball into when he is batting.

Interesting question.

Hilfy was something like 5-15 dismissing Bopara in 09, I think.

Edit: Just checked McGrath to Atherton on a hunch. Had him 6 times in 2011. Can’t find/think of a 7 though.
Hadlee may be a contender due to being so far superior to his opening partners. Although maybe disadvantaged by rarely playing more than 3 test series.

Maybe Rodney Hogg in 1978/9

Yup, Hogg dismissed Gooch 6 times in 1978/79.

Going back to Alderman, he dismissed Gooch 4 times in 1989; slightly less than I expected actually, especially as 2 of those were in the 6th test.
Alderman dismissed Boycott 6 times in 1981 though.

6 is the record according to this cricinfo article from 2013, so if it's been bettered it would need to be something from the last 4 years.

One that doesn't quite count because it's across two series is Ashwell Prince's 8 dismissals in a row against Warne.
He was dismissed by Warne 11 times in only nine matches. Eight of those dismissals were in consecutive Test innings against Australia, although the games were spread over two series. During Australia's tour of South Africa in 2002-03, Prince fell to Warne in his last three innings of the series. And when South Africa next played Australia, in 2005-06, Warne dismissed him in his first five innings of that tour.

Not the best day's cricket for Australia was it?

I noticed the Barmy Army deploying a rendition of the Mitchell Johnson song against Bird on the radio yesterday. I think there's a possibility this could turn out to be his last test, time's against him. Although who knows with our injuries.

That was slightly weird just then. Bill went through the list of the top 10 highest scorers carrying the bat and mentioned everyone bar the 3 most recent ones Atapattu, Sehwag and Anwar who were also the only Asians on the list.

The Aussies did well to strike Anderson out right off the bat so to speak.

Warner needs to play some serious offence here if Australia set England 200 to win, then I think Australia will make this 4 zero. Lyon will be throwing up some curveballs tomorrow.
