You can understand why people were calling Ponting the 2nd best ever when he averaged about that after 100 Tests
Ponting never actually got to that 60 mark, did he? I think he was at 59 point something at some stage in 2006 or 2007.

Nah mate he averaged 60 after a hundred tests. His best 52 test streak averaged 70

I feel that Broad's inability to move the ball away from right handers is getting to be a serious issue.

Ponting never actually got to that 60 mark, did he? I think he was at 59 point something at some stage in 2006 or 2007.
According to howstat he got to 60.07 after his 142 at Adelaide. Other than that no. Certainly not a sustained period like Smith has.

Not disputing the general point, just being pedantic about the numbers. He reached 59.99 after Adelaide 2006, that was his career high.

The main difference in my mind between Smith and Ponting is Smith doesn't have the India weakness in his record that Ponting has. He also doesn't have the same balance issues in the early part of his innings that Ponting did.
