Time to drop Root from the top four convo. Bloke simply isn't in the other threes class.

Interesting to see if his career average follows other blokes who played for England and flirted with greatness like KP and Cook.

Scorecard doesn’t look that bad for England at a glance, but if the quicks get going again after tea then it’s not hard to imagine one wicket quickly turning into 3/4/5...

Oh absolutely, a bad half a series completely rules out anything that’s gone before, couldn’t agree more!

You're not allowed a 'bad' series?

Story of our series/last couple of years in that opening session. Batsmen getting in, looking good, then finding a way to get out, a real lack of anyone taking responsibility and going on.

Cook looks all at sea, caught sitting well back to a full, quick and straight one. Stoneman looked really good, shades of Trescothick with the minimalistic footwork but good momentum into the shot and punished anything loose especially early on. Sadly he was very well worked over in the end.

James Vince, I’m sure we can all just copy and paste exactly the same comments we’ve made after each innings, looked really good, left the ball well early, couple of stunning drives through the offside, then can’t help himself and pushes at a drive that isn’t really there for it. Such a frustration.

Root was a tad unlucky, now we need a real partnership from these two, get in again after tea and take advantage of these conditions.

Tbh, Bairstow also hasn't done much, if anything wrong, in the last year or two.
Even when he has he doesn't get as bad a grilling as some of the others. Not saying it a bad thing as Bairstow has been good for that period and often when he has given it away it is because he is batting with the tail and looking to score some quick runs anyway.

Need him to go big here if we are to have any chance in this match.

Kohli's been allowed absolutely disgraceful performances in two high profile series, not sure why Root doesn't get a pass in one where he's averaging 32.
