Australian Test Selection Thread 2017 - 2018

Wouldn't be surprised if the sports science is indicating that Starc, Cummins and Haze are all in the pale red (if not Barnaby Joyce crimson) zones re workloads, so see the breakdown as a higher possibility this match.

Obvs they don't want to rest someone -- they want to decide the series here -- but if Cummins goes down 15 overs into the match, it'd mean Starc/Hazlewood both end up completely wrecked by the end of the match. So you go to Melbourne at 2-1 with an attack drawn from Bird, Sayers, an undercooked Behrendorff, or Siddle.

Instead, you drop a guy making no runs for a guy who may also make no runs but can cover the bowlers if something goes wrong. If he gets injured because he's undercooked and he has to bowl stacks of overs, ehh, whatever. And, well, if he finally becomes the player he was always supposed to be it's one hell of a bonus.
Not that it would get to this but with NCN, Behrendorff and even CA test tube baby Stanlake all currently wrecked who is after Bird & Sayers (not that he will ever debut) ?

Is it the tried and tested Boland/Tremain/Mennie/Worrall or is that next group of WA boys.

Tremain probably, he's the best of that crew. Mennie is locked away to the vaults, Bland and the man with the penis obsession shouldn't be next after Bird and Sayers I'd hope.

Nufan's son over all them though.

**** science. I'm surprised Cummster got through India, let alone has managed this many tests in a row.

Grind them until they break I say.

Are we honestly expecting all three quicks to go down in a single match? Are they really that fragile?

South Africa managed to roll us twice after Steyn went down at the WACA last year. No reason we couldn't do a similar thing to England this time around.

For a second I thought you were on about the other skinny Pete.

Vegan Pete is still on the selectors radar don't you know  :D

Remember what a different bowler he was when he started and was eating juicy pieces of meat.

But all and all a decent test career with 211 poles @ 29s

Why on earth would you want to risk an injury Jesus

We want Pat Cummins fit

This is about having an opening, comb boy, and wanting to recall one of the beloved Marsh boys. They will say whatever to fit him in.

He's still playing Big Bash, so we know he's good for at least 4 overs a day...

Am I correct in assuming that Henriques is finished as a test option in the eyes of the selectors? Averaged 60 something with the bat last year in the Shield and at least offers some relief with the ball in a long session if required.

Could have been a short term option until one of either Mitch Marsh or Cartright stake a real claim thru the Shield by making strong runs, or someone like Wildermuth stakes a claim.

I'm ok with Marsh's selection (I'm a believer) but it does seem hurried, especially with concerns over his batting ability at #6, and his injury which means he's hardly bowled recently.

If we wanted to reward performance, why not Moises? One of the best Shield bats last year, plus provides something with the ball.

He's probably done but he always gets picked at the weirdest moments so who knows

I don't think he should, because he's Portuguese and in my experience people who hail from Iberia or such regions don't understand the Ashes.
