International Debutant
I think the big question could be whether Gibson thinks Philander is good enough to bat at 7, as that obviously opens up the door for a dream quartet of Steyn, Philander, Rabada, and Morkel. He has been in decent form with the bat of late - he did well against England (batting at 7 some of the time), and has also had a couple of good cameos for the Cobras in the Ram Slam, so that definitely strengthens the case for me. Also, Gibson did pick Phehlukwayo to bat at 7, and you certainly can't say that Philander is any worse than him, although it was against Bangladesh and we don't know how much he may have been persuaded by the selectors to do that, not having had much of a chance to get to know the players at that point.Even taking quotas out of it... Gibsons choice is not clear yet. The top 6 for SA is pretty sorted, and we know Philander, Steyn, Rabada and probably Maharaj will play. That leaves 1 spot for 1 of Bavuma, Morkel, Morris... possible Pheklukwayo, but that would be a quota choice. So if Gibson back 4 bowlers, then Bavuma may stay but he has made it clear he likes 7 being an allrounder spot with a long batting line-up.
