I don't think Hazlewood is bowling too badly but Lyon is comfortably the pick of the bowlers for mine
Yeah I think Hazlewood will come good. He needs some rhythm back is all. If he doesn't come good in Perth, Bird is waiting in the wings, ready to fly into Melbourne and crap all over the English batsmen.

During the change over, the only bowler I fear, whereby I say to myself ''oh bugger'', is Lyon. Even a lot of Cummins' stuff, as impressive as it is, is never going to get a batsman out. Lyon looks like he is going to take a wicket with every ball; he is relentless.

Start time back to the scheduled Chinese Dentist AEDT. Handy for Australia not having an extra half hour of bowling if it's going down to the wire later on.

Did anyone else catch Warney say he'd love to be out there playing last night? Warney Ashes comeback for the 2019 series. Make it happen!

Poor decision by Smith not to enforce. Sitting behind that was no doubt the whole sports science loading theories etc. (which do have a big place but should never be the sole determinant).

Instead of worrying about the next Test in Perth, they should have had as their priority this current Test.

We're ranked 5th in the world, and simply can't afford to be getting ahead of ourselves.

If an opportunity is there to turn the screws in the current Test that you're playing, do it.

I'd love to see Warne make a massive fool of himself. The danger would be that he wouldn't suck. I mean, Brad Hogg's 46 and not sucking, so I suppose Warne could.

Wasn't it in 2010/11 where things were so bad a Warne comeback was being treated even slightly seriously?

Ignoring the insult, you still haven't addressed the points.
I don't see what the issue is with some of the points you made. Apparently some people on here knew it was going to swing around corners at night on day 3, despite it not having done so before or since. As GotSpin said, the real issue was how they bowled at the end of the England innings. Wrap up the tail quickly and it makes following on a better prospect. Bowling short **** at them for over upon over just tires out the bowlers more and makes it less likely they can back up immediately after the 1st innings. It also allowed England to get closer than they should have. You could argue they only had to go for another session or so and they could rest overnight, but there was clearly an eye on the gap between the upcoming tests too. Having an extra bowler might have made a difference to the decision he made.

Yep, and Starc came out and said: "Warne's retired, we already have a spinner"

And, typically of Warne, things have been a little frosty between them since haha

Starc’s series bowling figures are good but I think he’s been only intermittently impressive; he’s generally been blah with the new ball and to go for over 5 an over yesterday in a match which has rarely been scoring at 3 was ordinary.
Hazlewood seemed to be getting progressively better after an ordinary start in Brisbane but he was largely disappointing yesterday and in fact has been in a bit of a rut recently (6 wickets at 58 in last 5 Tests). Sure, 3 of those were in Asia but Cummins was much more effective in the same conditions.
Starc is always only 50% impressive, he is the best 2nd new ball bowler going round.

But he is the teams loose cannon,(or Mitchell Johnson if you will), who can win a game in a spell.
So you have to play him and put up with the short stuff down leg side because that is the only way you will occasionally get the booming inswinging yorkers that devastate the opposition.

It is the job of Hazlewood and Cummins to bowl the line and length, keep the runs down and get the wickets for when Starc doesnt.

Saker has admitted that they got the follow-on decision wrong

In a more general sense and not necessarily applicable in this Test, not enforcing opens up the conundrum of when to declare, and also more opens up the possibility of a draw

By enforcing, the prospects of a draw are generally speaking much less

How much difference would it have made to Smith's decision if he could toss the ball to Maxwell to give the quicks a break? Might have been the difference between enforcing the follow on or not.

Anyway it doesn't matter. We have let ourselves down with two hours of filthy short pitched rubbish followed up with yet another batting collapse.

Root probably needs 170 or so if England are to salute today, I would guess

I'm a cricket lover before all else, and a big part of me hopes they do it

Sure, if it was a World War I would be on the front line for Australia...but I just want to see a great series, and an England win today would electrify the Summer

Saker has, based on what he saw happen once England bowled. He appears to be saying in hindsight they may have got it wrong. Something you don't have when you make the decision.

Like Smith would let Maxwell bowl though.

Key for me tonight is moeen, we're gonna need a huge innings from him and Lyons been going through the left handlers like wet tissue paper. Got to pay attention and not settle for anything less than 50
