Kane's in a really poor patch at the moment as well - albeit not helped by an obscene lack of test match opportunities. Maybe four's becoming two.
Kohli isn't even the best batsman in his team according to the ICC rankings.

Yeah wasn't sure whether to include him as although I can't remember him scoring heavily recently I can barely remember more than a few test matches that he's played in the last 18 months.

Kohli had the worst series ever not too long ago and is back in form. KW will be fine as will Root, who looked good for his fifty as recently as last innings. But yeah Smith still #1

I assume you mean the series in England over three years ago? He only averaged in the low 40s before that happened, I'm not sure you can explain the difference between that tour and his current exploits as purely a form thing. He's gone on a massive upward trajectory in tests ever since.

He means the home series v Australia where he averaged 9 I think.

Had a shocker at home vs Australia.

It's a 'playing in home conditions against dreadful Sri Lankan bowling' thing.

Wtf. I completely missed this happening. So he has a four match series (where he played three) where he averaged single figures and a five match series where he averaged under 15, in a career otherwise filled with quality overseas centuries and dominant double hundreds. Amazing.

Like I was saying in the other thread it's the big black mark against his name for mine, even moreso that Root's conversion problems. At least 50s are actually runs, you can't just go completely missing for whole series and expect it to be ignored.

He's had the two best series of his career by far against Australia and England where he got big runs basically every time he walked out to bat. He's also had his two worst series by far against the same opponents, where he bats like he doesn't know how to grip a bat.
