Everyone seems to have forgotten about Kane Williamson, myself included, and you can't really blame them because I can't even remember the last time he played. If it was recent then it must have been against some other minnow team or something
For the record, I'm certainly not saying Root is the No2 batsmen in the world......but he surely is in that discussion. But of the so called fab 4 Smith is so far in front right now it;s not funny.

And I ****ing hate it!!

Root is definitely the #2 for me. That threat he poses of a counterattacking hundred in difficult seaming conditions where runs are worth double or triple what they normally are is gold dust.

It's hard to know what to make of Kohli tbh. It'd be harsh to call him a flat track bully but he'd want to score some runs against some decent attacks in challenging conditions soon to shake any suspicion.
Yeah I want to see more knocks like the ~50 he scored in the 2nd innings of the 1st test against England. That was one of his best innings imo.

Bancroft also has the advantage of being Western Australian which seems to endow cricketers with some untouchable quality according to our selectors, let alone when Langer's involved.

This doesn't apply to Behrendorff but he's from Camden.
Like Hussey who wasn't selected until he was 30? Maybe some truth if you mean this applies to anyone named Marsh. Seriously, Bancroft has been knocking the door down for a while now, and a tad unlucky in the sense that last summer when the selectors were looking for a replacement for Burns, Bancroft was in his leanest patch, whereas Renshaw had just made a century in FC.

It happens when you know you have about three overs worth of batting left tbf.
Nope, inexcusable. The over before off Starc he’d belted two cuts miles in front of square for 2.

With the field change it was obvious it was still going to be wide but even shorter. It’s minutes before the tea break. Just get through. At least try and construct a partnership with the tail.

Getting caught at third man when you’re the last frontline batsman, who needs to extort every run you humanly can from the innings, is inexcusable

Is Jason Ball usually this trash? Of all the random seamers England have tried out over the last few years, only Jade Dernbach has immediately stuck out as being less impressive.

EDIT: I guess he is coming back from an injury though.
Being euphemistic, he's very ordinary.

He's made the flight through picking up enough Division 2 wickets to manufacture a respectable average, but even there's he's benefited from having Pattison bowling at the other end for his county.

But the English cupboard is really bare nowadays. Maybe a discussion for another thread.

Pattinson was taking wickets at about six though, so I don't know how meaningful that is.

I am calling it now. If Clouderson retires before India tour there next, we are winning a test series easily.

We're going there next year. He's probably looking at it as a chance to do some stat-padding. :p

Yeah given how he's done the last few times India have toured, he'd be mad to retire before that.
