Australian Test Selection Thread 2017 - 2018

When is the squad for the first test announced anyway?
Friday

Personally re: the squad. As much as we should have loyalty in the new fellas, I wonder whether Renshaw playing the first test would be at all productive given how he's been looking. Bancroft in comparison is looking utterly comfortable with his game.

Yeah, I was really sold on Renshaw at the start of the summer but he looks really out of sorts, much as I rate him. Bancroft can’t do any more than he has so far

Wade is definitely out. Id like Maxwell but I reckon he'll be turfed. Bancroft in for Renshaw.

Might be time to drop Maxi to seven and ask him to take the gloves.

So lets say Nevill fails miserably with the bat tomorrow......do you give Bancroft the gloves?

If no, state your alternative.../.

Give them to Nevill anyway instead of basing my selections on three weeks of cricket. Nevill's already proven he can boss the Shield.

I like Bancroft, and I'd much rather see him in the team than Wade. I think he could make quite a decent Test keeper/batsman if he decided that's what he wanted to do and took the role completely seriously, but he wouldn't be my pick yet.

I'd just go with Nevill regardless and keep Bancroft as the reserve opener.

Cartwright would take 6.

Nev should get them. Every keeper is **** out of luck with the bat right now and you might as well select the best full-time keeper who just happens to have the highest roof of batting ability in the country.

Think I read last week that you could count on one hand the amount of times Bancroft has kept in FC cricket. As knee-jerky as the selection talk is right now, going for a fella who seems to be only keeping because WA can't be damned shoving Inglis into a robust middle order is pushing the envelope a stamp too many for me.

I lean toward retaining Renshaw but I haven't seen much of him this year other than a pretty rank dismissal where he got thoroughly squared up. Is he really travelling that badly he needs a spell?

Renshaw probably wasn't out today but he's been extra stodgy lately....and obviously a bit short of runs. Bancroft will probably gonna get 150+ today.....and given his performance against the BEST DOMESTIC BOWLING ATTACK EVER<tm> last round, it will be hard to deny him a cap.

It's funny how Khawajas career stats might go. Might never be picked for an Asian touring squad again yet will continue to have awesome home series and end up with some sick career average but it's debated to the cows come home where he sits as a batsman compared to others

It's a pity it is only a 12-man squad and obviously Bird is 12th man.

Ideally you get Bancroft in the squad to put Renshaw and or Nevill on their toes.

The Maxwell/Cartwright/M.Marsh/Lehmann/Stoinis thing at 6 is becoming an issue.

You know I don't think picking Bancroft is such a bad idea. The bloke is in the form of his life. He's still young and has a future. It's not like the other keeping options are doing all that well with bat or gloves.
