Road to the 2017-18 Ashes in Australia

England’s ****ed up climate hurts them so badly when they cop injuries on their winter tours. At least in other countries players can go outdoors and practice or play in winter comps to stay fit without a game being called off for bad light at 1pm.
I've been watching the first half of the Australian season and it pissed it down preceding the beginning of the ladies' Ashes and in the recently completed Shield games, NSW/WA was rain affected while the spectators at the MCG were huddled in coats with woolen hats. It always looks grey and cast over on Neighbours and Home and Away.

How do Pommy blokes who are next in line get reasonable practice in while the team is away? Indoor nets can only do so much, and from about early November onwards there’s 2.5 hours of light per day, if it isn’t raining it’s snowing and all the facilities are being used for football. Given the UK is a postage stamp, it isn’t as though the players can go to a different part of the country where it’s warmer and drier to have substantial training in the event of a call up. I think it’s a credit to England that they’ve done so well in winter tours over the years when operating at such a climatic as well as physical disadvantage.

I looked and apparently it's a La Nina year, so I'm predicting an England series win.
Yeah it’s meant to be a wet summer this year. I’d say it will make the farmers happy, but it won’t because nothing makes farmers happy.

Many bugger-off to your country to play grade cricket, that is the few who are not franchise merchants who travel all over. One county (from 18) for example, three upcoming county players just breaking into the first-team, all playing grade cricket: Durham trio head Down Under

And you have already been introduced to Mason Crane who even received his New South Wales cap?

Scotty Borthwick by the way usually plays for Wellington.

NZ is South Sea Island Pommyland anyway. I'm not talking about up and comers, more that it must be a pain in the arse not being able to practice or play properly close to home owing to how dreary the place is.

Yip, so dreary that you all come and play here every season: Handscomb; Travis Head; Jake Lehmann; Finch and Maxwell.

If you go back in time a bit we even had your Langer, Ponting, the Husseys and Warne. McGrath had a season here also.

Yes, in what passes for your summer. Not your winter.
Well they are not playing in your winter, are they? I heard you Australians when your cricket season ends all start playing Rugger and that weird football you play which nobody else sensibly does as it looks terrible.

In boom years "the prices are too low, we have to let apples rot on the ground". In hard years "give us money so we don't go out of business".

Farming is a very hard life and it'll become harder in the coming years but there is no other profession that has such electoral power to ignore market realities by begging for handouts than farmers do.

Unless you count lawyers who simply get into power and make more laws for themselves to interpret in ways that only make sense to lawyers.

Would recommend anyone who comes to Australia to watch an AFL game live. Amazing sport. Fastest of all football codes by miles.

No one here really plays rugby except for private school wankers.

I thought Queenslanders and chaps from Sydney liked Rugger?

Australians have been belittling rugby union ever since we won the world cup in their back yard
John Howard, face like a smacked arse, handing over the trophy to Martin Johnson and his boys: one of my favourite days in sporting history.

I was out in sydney for a month last winter and my cousins and all their mates was more into union than any other code. They live in glenbrook so thats the penrith / blue mountains area

I can't say I disagree with that first article at all. The way certain players have been treated has been atrocious.

I love Smith as a batsman but he has far too much say over the team makeup. Likewise Lehmann as coach.
