***Official*** Australia in India ODIs/T20s 2017

Whatever it takes!!!
This is a rough one for Australia. Just like the ODIs we lost when we went down there at the end of 2015, doing well for very long periods of the game and still losing because of percentages but it keeps happening. Still think they should play both spinners at some stage but then again, The Chinnaswamy has even smaller boundaries than Holkar.

Stoinis has gotten a taste for having a high average and now just playing for the not outs . . .

Nah Australia lost this series because of their batting
Absolutely, can't blame the bowling at all. On paper the Aus bowling is very ordinary, but restricting India to 280 and then bowling them out for 250 in the 2nd game, in those conditions, was a monumental effort.

100% the batsmen underperforming.

Was a bit of a shock having a brief look at the tv at 224/1 or whatever it was and coming back to see that fetid score we ended up with.

Would think Maxwell's rope is shortening in the ODI format.

Really think Australia will be well served with Haze, Cummins and Starc as their main bowlers in the WC. I would suggest Zampa should be the spinner as you have Cummins and Starc at 8 and 9 and that should ensure the tail is not too long. Something like this -

Warner
Finch/another opener
Smith (c)
Head
Handscomb/other keeper (wk)
Stoinis
Maxwell
Starc
Cummins
Zampa
Hazlewood

will be a very good side, if the batting can sort itself out.

I think it'll be a fantastic effort to defend 275 on there, generally speaking from what I've seen so far. No lateral movement, minimal swing, fast outfield and seems to be coming onto the bat nicely. India would take an Aussie score of 275 right now surely ?

I owe you an apology mate. The track remained flat and there was virtually no additional assistance for the seamers under lights. Guess it was one of those hot evening/nights in Indore.

I think Hennybogan's side is pretty well balanced. Keeper is really the main concern (maybe Dunk at a 7/slogging role with the all rounders pushed up). I reckon we should stack our best bowlers since we don't exactly have quality bats in reserve anyway and Starc/Cummins aren't the worst lower order going round.

M Marsh is perfectly fine for ODI's IMO. While I don't think he should be anywhere near the test team he's done well in ODI's and can be used all round the order, also provides a genuine 6th bowling option in case Stoinis or one of the others aren't going well/get injured.

M Marsh in ODIs is a bit like Watson - he gets crapped on because people think of his test performances. M Marsh is actually a really good #6/7 for ODIs. He's a big hitter of the ball and a more than decent fourth/fifth bowler.

Warner
Finch
Smith (c)
Head
Pierson (w/k)
Stoinis
Marsh
Cummins
Starc
Zampa
Hazlewood

That looks like our best side (right now) for England in 2019.

Why Marsh, when Stoinis fills the same role?
Mitch Marsh is probably good enough to make the team as a batsman alone

I don't think he's suited to the middle-order, which I know is strange given he's played most his international career there. He's often played his best opening, even before he was a regular for Australia.

He struggles to read the game situation coming in in the middle-overs, and needs the freedom to just go in at the start without worrying about overs left/wickets in hand etc. I just don't see them using him in that role which is unfortunate. The first 2 games of this series would have been a good chance to try it but they picked Hilton "List A average of 20" Cartwright for god know's what reason.

^ Yep was the time to use it esp in the first game. If my memory is correct, didn't Maxwell open against S/L in the T20's and go berserk? Warner was captain as well I think.

That selection sucked for everyone, really. Even Cartwright suffered from it because now lots of people are writing him off as a Test player - a format his game is much more developed in.
