***Official*** Australia in India ODIs/T20s 2017

I think they'll do alright even if they're not favourites.

Starc, Haze, NCN, Cummins and Zampa is a good attack.

Warner and Smith are guns. Head and Stoinis are ok.

Just need to get rid of Cartwright.
There's an enormous difference in Warner's level at home and away, it makes such a big difference to the quality of Australia's side home and away, almost like India's spinners.

It's funny how Maxwell hasn't improved at all in the last 5 years as you would have predicted. If anything he's regressed. I wouldn't be surprised to see him out of the side come 2019. He's probably lucky to be there as it is.

Whatever it takes!!!
I know Australian fans and media (and possibly the cricketers themselves) tend to write off such ODI tours but I think they're a pretty good guide for where the Australian side is at.

It probably meant less for the previous WC when Australia was playing at home and various issues were being masked but a World Cup in England (where Australia have failed in multiple Champions Trophies) means you have to adjust and bring different skill sets and temperaments to situations and I just don't see it with this lineup over the past 18 months. Unless something changes pretty substantially over the next 15-18 months can't really see Australia being a title contender in 2019.

The batting may be a worry but one thing that will help them out is apart from England, they seem to have the deepest batting line up. If you consider the quartet, almost all of them are good enough batsmen (except Haze) for #8 and they can all hit a long ball too, unlike say India with Ashwin and Bhuvi (who are reasonable to good batting options in tests but cant hit the big shots in ODIs), so that depth will definitely help them and if Starc is there, he is at a zone by himself as a LO bowler. I guess it may still not be enough but they will be amongst the top contenders for sure.

good to see cartwright has cartwheeled himself out of selection

meanwhile handscomb will be using his hands to keep. interesting call.

Excellent toss to win as usual in these conditions. Its just so hot out there and batting first is a big advantage, as India showed in last two games, even when the batting did not really click. India has to hope we can nip out a few early wickets and then it can be a different game. Else, expect Australia to win this one coz those first few overs under lights at Nohit will not be good to watch, as an India fan. But hopefully the bowling attack won't let it come down to those levels.

Decent start from the Aussie openers here, been watchful in reaching 52-0 off 11 but the platform for a big one is being set. When a batting line up is coming under pressure as this line up is, then the last thing they need is to lose a couple of early ones on a road to build the pressure knowing they're going to need 300+.

I honestly think 275+ is defendable here, do not need 300, so its a good idea not to go too hard too soon. Plus you have this 4 fielders outside rule till like 40 overs. You can get a few big overs anytime between now and then.

I think it'll be a fantastic effort to defend 275 on there, generally speaking from what I've seen so far. No lateral movement, minimal swing, fast outfield and seems to be coming onto the bat nicely. India would take an Aussie score of 275 right now surely ?

As I say all that, Pandya cleans up Warner with a slower cutter. Can't tell if that's done much to beat Warner or whether he's just missing a straight one trying to open the face on it.

Got to say I have a lot of time for Pandya.

EDIT - Yes just seen it again and it has just gripped in the surface, excellent bowling.

Yeah they would but the ball will move a lot more under lights and with the cool evenings you get in most parts of India, the new ball bowlers will be a real handful. So I will still say 275 is defendable if the bowlers bowl well, as in they dont need to something exception, just being good should get the job done.

Fair enough, I shall bow to your better knowledge of the conditions. Generally speaking over here it can be an advantage batting under lights where it just helps to skid it onto the bat rather than it doing a whole lot more, of course that isn't the case all the time.

What do you think Australia are heading for at this point ?

I think Australia could get anywhere between 275 to 325 as its still early days but Maxi at 7 and Handscomb at 5 just gives them such better balance. Also, the dew should help the batsmen later on during the 2nd innings but one, two new balls kinda negates that to an extent and two, dew is not a certainty here in these months. But the evening breeze and cooler conditions during the initial overs of the second innings of a D/N game is practically a certainty anywhere in India and with the two new balls, it should help most new ball bowlers do some damage and I rate NCN and Cummins very very high.

Great delivery by Pandya, and the batting has been solid too. Smith with one of his special shots in the same over.

Looks an absolute belter now this pitch. Definite opportunity for Aus to double their score from the 30 over mark here.
