I wouldn't be against keeping the spinners on instead of taking the new ball while de Kock's settling in. Rough outside the left hander's off stump, and all that.

EDIT Only beaten to it by three of you.

Superb from Moeen. Keep the spinners on for 5 overs at least. Root botched the bowlers opening up this morning. Don't do it again now

No they weren't. They were over 200 runs behind ffs with two batsmen and bowlers left, having to bat last on a wearing (rarity at Lords) pitch.

Yeah, sort of pitch you would feel very comfortable bowling on with a target of over 300 to get. Looks like we should set them more than that from here unless Philander and QDK bat very very well.

That too. No problem with a captain changing his plans, especially one so new to the job. Better than playing by the book and all that which Cook got wrong over the years.

Could have given himself an over maybe but might have knocked Dawson's confidence had he done that.

Still a pretty good surface to bat on most of the time. De Kock so dangerous, he has to bat top 5 for SA.
