South Africa team selection

SeamUp

International Coach
Yeah thought about that but then remembered Amla was struggling and maybe at 34 we can protect him a bit more at 4 especially with Markram and de Bruyn more suited in top 3.

Of course that doesn't solve Temba issues. Really needs to get his confidence back.

So with that terrible CT out of the way, where the team pretty much performed as expected showing weaknesses we already knew.

Time to look forward to the Eng-SA test series.. Hopefully with some ideas in mind, and willing to make the necessary changes and difficult decisions required for the test teams and the future LO team.

Bahseph

International Debutant
Yeah some serious revamp needs to be done to the ODI team. We knew our top order needed to bat deep, and that KG and Tahir were our bankers with the ball.

At least we came out of the CT knowing that Morkel still has some life, but at his age is it worth keeping him around for LO cricket? I'd think so. He makes that team easier than the Test team when everyone is fit. Tahir was fine. Parnell needs to go. Phelukwayo isn't ready yet and Pretorious is possibly better suited to Tests.

Really tired of our approach at the top with the bat. I don't think it's the players as much as the approach. Either going into a shell or doing something ridiculous. Of all the batters I'd say Miller came out with a little credit. His knock against Pakistan was class. Stood up when needed. It just seems like this team still has scar tissue in LO cricket. I can't see us winning anything when the core has mental blocks.

Thought AB's captaincy was poor at times today. Especially how he handled Tahir. When India needed just 40 runs to win, Tahir at that point had bowled only 2 overs. Have no idea why he wasn't bowling him sooner... game was virtually over before Tahir even had a chance to do something.

Cook watch, 25, 44 in last match against Kent.

Markram, Kuhn do well again can see him under real pressure. At least one of those 2 need to make it into the squad along with de Bruyn.

Have not spoken about Klaasens much, he has performed well also? Is he a better keeper than QDK? Could Klaasen get into the team as a pure batsmen or even allow QDK to move up the order and take the gloves from him?

Is Ashwel Prince one of the selectors?
Yes he is...
Linda Zondi was appointed as the new Convener of the National Selection panel. The other three independent selectors appointed to the national selection panel are - Hussein Manack, Errol Stewart and Ashwell Prince. Proteas Head Coach, Russell Domingo, serves as the fifth member of the selection panel.

S.Kennedy

International Vice-Captain
S. Cook has not really worked out for Durham in the championship where he averages 20.41; he is with us for two more championship games (v Glam and Worcs) so he'll hopefully have four more attempts to improve on that. His form however was much better in the one-dayers, 45.66. He'll be replaced by Tom Latham for the remainder of the season.

So taking this away from the doom and gloom thread.... and based on SeamUp's comments in that thread.

What would South Africa want in a new coach. Obviously the coach normally brings his own staff, but currently with McKenzie as batting and Langenveldt as bowling coach; has the head coaching position moved to a more managerial, player management role? Which is what I think Domingo has been doing. If so who would be the best person in SA to do that job? I am going to be interested to find out who has applied?

SA A were 190/1 and closed the day at 227/7.

Good grief.
I never know what to think of those sort of scores because it could be something as simple as Porter started swinging the ball and causing problems, or it could have just been really bad play.

Good thing was Markram and Kuhn scoring runs.... bad thing was Bavuma and de Bruyn nor scoring runs. Right now except for Olivier and those 4 nobody else should have a real chance for Test selection for the Eng tour.

Bavuma is under some serious pressure.
He did score some runs the other day opening, but he is not converting anything when he gets in. But with Faf unlikely to play first test and de Bruyn not scoring runs either and Cook and Duminys head on the block... he is probably 3rd choice to be dropped.
