I wont drop him yet.. We need him to be at his confident best for the tests and the WC is now 2 years away. But what I would like to see is a very straight conversation with the management where he is told in no uncertain terms what he is expected to do, when he is picked in the XI. He has to be the attacking, wicket taking spinner and if he cannot do that role, or is not suitable for that role, there is no place for him in our best ODI XI. And that's that. Lets give him the series against WI and SL to see if he can step up. He has been picked and dropped way too often. Make these 10 games do or die for him. Take a call post that, for good. That way, if he does not perform and he is dropped, we will know for sure that he will not be in our plans for the WC and we can try younger options. I would love to see Krunal Pandya blooded in for the one off T20s over Jaddu as well and see if we can slowly groom him for the ODIs.

If we had a young leggie who can also hold a bat, we will have a gun attack. Yuvi and Jadhav with their filth fingerspin, Kuldeep and the leggie as the serious spin threats, and all 4 of them plus Hardik and Dhoni/Pant lending balance to our side batting numbers 4 through 9.

tbh I'm not sure why we've forgotten about Mishra. Dude picked up 5-18 in his last ODI and has a pretty fantastic record overall. If you want an attacking spinner then he's a great option really.

He was wrongly picked for Tests on the back of ODIs and now he's paying for it.

Mishra is a decent pick but I expect him to be picked apart in big games. Still, could do worse than him.

I like Mishra but the bloke is one of the worst chokers I've ever seen. Falls apart every time a batsman gets on top of him. All it takes is a few boundaries for him to lose confidence. Not sure we want someone like that in tournament cricket.

While there is an element of truth to this, you're mixing up formats. This doesn't happen very often in ODIs. He's only gone for >6rpo in 4 matches in his career.

Meanwhile Ashwin since 2016 is averaging 80.5 and going at 6.44rpo.

But we need him for tests too.. One good thing is the kid can bat as well and unlike Jaddu seems like he knows what type of a lower order batsman he wants to be.

Didn't realize it was quite that bad. Small sample size, but yeah.. pretty woeful.

Mishra is not a bad option but if he is playing, we cant afford another spinner as he is absolutely useless within the first 10 overs and we cant carry 3 guys who all cannot bowl at that time. And if we go with Umesh, Shami, Bhuvi, Pandya + Mishra, the tail becomes extremely weak. Its a bit of a no win situation at the moment, hence the need to try out Krunal as soon as possible.

Imo Jadeja is still the first choice spinner and Bhuvi/Bumrah are still locks.

If we do decide on two spinners in a game it should be Mishra 2nd though. I disagree with the loss in batting because it's not like Ashwin batted well in ODIs anyways, plus Mishra can obviously slog a few himself.

Open to trying Kuldeep but I believe Mishra should get preference for now.

Krunal is a tough one because 10 overs from him could get ugly and with not that much return in the batting department. Also it defeats the purpose of us trying a few attacking options for once.

I'd go with the following for a while and adjust accordingly

Bhuvi, Yadav/Shami, Bumrah, Jadeja, Pandya - You could replace Yadav with Shami but the former is more likely to take wickets imo. The others are generally tight and so can usually cover up when Yadav has a bad day.

Bhuvi, Bumrah, Mishra, Jadeja, Pandya - If we choose to play two spinners

Nah.. Pandya is not tight by any stretch of the imagination. Even on his good days he will be hacked for 5 an over. That is the worry about getting Yadav in along with this group. Shami, if he is fully match fit, should be the guy who should be leading the attack along with Bhuvi and Bumrah. Yadav can come in if one of the other 3 is not in form. And Mishra as the second spinner could work in conditions that dictate that, but we need to have much better #1 and #2 bowlers if we are to do that.

And my comment about us losing out on batting was assuming if Mishra plays as the lone spinner, in which case we will miss both Jadeja and Ashwin's batting. Neither have set the world on fire in ODIs but we know they are capable of batting time in the worst case and even that wont be there with Mishy. Anyways I actually agree with you mostly on the bowling attacks. Just that I will play Shami over Yadav and maybe they will try Kuldeep before Mishy now in this upcoming series.

Good that we have games starting this friday.. :)

Well the CAC got Kumble out of nowhere to be the coach and asked him to apply, according to similar "sources". So yes, definitely there is a lot of fire that is causing this smoke.

I dont think its too much to be fussed about to be honest. Strong personalities usually dont mesh well and given the captain is also a player, its usually the coach who ends up going out. Sachin and Kapil had similar issues, I dont think you can blame either party or take sides here coz no one knows what is happening.

Man, what a shitshow this last month has been... this couldn't really have been handled any worse.

Greg Chappell was right about one thing. Indian cricket runs on leaks and stories. I am not sure why you expect anything to be managed well when it comes to Indian cricket.

Apart from the **** show bit, I think Kumble was a bad coach, just like Kapil was, just like Chappell was. No track record of great coaching in any of those cases. So I am glad he is gone in that regard.

We just have to shrug and accept that some personalities dont match up well. Who knows, Kumble might have done very well with Dhoni as captain. Maybe the style of Virat and Kumble are not matching. What can you do? Just pick the best option out of what we have.
