18th June - FINAL - India vs Pakistan

Niall

International Coach
People were suggesting he should be captain not to long ago, but this has been a pretty average campaign from Malik. I don't think he should be dropped win or lose, but I wouldn't put money on him playing the world cup in 2 years time.

I still can't get over just how long the gap was between Bhuvi's spells. You watch when Junaid bowls his second spell, will be much earlier - of course different bowling attacks.

How do you define "going missing" as a captain? Refusing to change pre-defined tactics when things aren't going to plan? Being afraid to take brave decisions? I don't think Kohli's cricket is defined by fear on any level. Tactics and "feel for the game" just don't come to some captains, you gotta live with it.
I mean, at some point in the game when things are going against you, someone needs to raise their hand and go 'Right, everyone calm down. This is what the plan is. This is what we'll do'.

No one in the current side seems to do that. MSD used to, but he's taken a back seat role now. Which is what I meant when I said India as a side tend to be poor when things go against them. Like the whole Fakhar innings. They never stopped, slowed down the game, set a fixed plan and a fixed field, and decide that alright, this is what we're going to do. They kept shuffling bowlers and the field and tried many things and nothing sticked. There was a lack of calm throughout the whole thing, and it almost felt like he was leaving it in the hands of the bowlers to figure out what to do instead of making the decision for them.

To me that says something about Kohli. I've played under captains who do the same thing, and it really isn't pleasant, especially when it's a crucial game. You always prefer the captain who has a plan, who is calm, who goes 'alright men, this is the plan, this is what we're going to do, we'll try it for a few overs, don't worry about the result just focus on executing it'. And usually the good captains tend to be very observant, and their plans tend to lead to favourable results.

Ofc I'm just watching on TV and am not actually on the field, so what the **** do I know, but yea that's what I define as 'going missing' and off the limited evidence I have it does feel like that.

Bhuvi tho, WAFG. Hafeez can still kill us tho...

Pakistan's game management has been quality today. Knowing the right moments to strike, playing without fear. We've bowled some real tripe though at times.
