C'mon Bangladesh.

Feel as if England will blaze to this target in 43 overs or something, hope not.

Poor batting at the death. Finished at least 20 runs short. 100 runs in last 10 was the absolute minimum from the position they were in. Only compounds the already conservative decision to pack the batting and not play Mehedi. Not to mention the sloooow start at the beginning. Definitely needed a lot more runs.

Mustafizur has a lot to do to retrieve the situation. Don't have a lot of confidence in the rest, Masrafee's captaincy and the fielding.

This is so ****ing true.. if England chase this down people will say oh so an so bowled a bad over or Tamim batted slowly but that moment of losing 2 set batsmen in 2 balls would be the moment England got hold of the game
But Tamim did bat far too slowly in the beginning. He wasn't even trying to score any runs, dead batting, leaving hittable balls and playing net shots straight to the fielder. England won't be as generous by playing out maidens to the likes of Masrafe.

There were two phases to Tamim's slow batting - there's the slow start and then the slow batting in the end when he lost his timing. The slow start I won't criticize him for because when you are sent in after losing the toss (and mind you Masrafe said he would have bowled first), there were some reasonable apprehensions about the new ball and losing early wickets, after being bowled out for 84 the other day.
So being cautious is okay but they made up for it. Mushfiq played a briliant knock and the partnership made up for it. They were 230 with 12 overs to go. 120 from the last 12 was an absolute minimum with 8 wickets to go, 2 set batsmen.

It's the finishing that cost them the game and I have to lay the blame on Mushfiq here. Tamim lost his momentum and his wicket at that stage wouldn't have been that bad. Mushfiq needed to form a partnership with Shakib and become the senior guy. Instead what does he do? He joins Tamim the next ball.

He has cost Bangladesh a lot of games, whether people notice them or not.

With 5 overs to go, I'm willing to forgive Mushy. Every ball from that point on is valuable and you can't afford to be cautious in modern ODI cricket imo. He was the set man, he had to take the initiative to score quick. I don't think him being cautious in that situation would've improved anything. He had to go for it and it didn't come off. **** happens.

I just came across an interesting stat, of the 3 previous occassions since CWC 2015 on which Bang have scored 300 or more, they have won each and every time. That includes wins over Pak, India and SL. Can they make it 4 out of 4?

Also having another look at this ability to defend 300+ scores since 2015, SA, Aus and Pak (in that order) have the best w/l ratio. Let us see how it pans out in this tournament, although I'm not surprised that the 3 teams with the most varied, possibly the best ODI bowling attacks have the best track record of defending big totals.

Not quite. They were 223 after 40 overs, not 230 odd with twelve to go. And Tamim still finished on 128 from 142, while Mushfiqur scored more than a run a a ball, so I'd say that he definitely didn't "make up for it". Maybe if he scored 148.

A lot of questions now for England. Firstly a tricky score, if achievable if they want to be up with the best.

Medium term who do they bring in to replace Woakes. Given they seem to have lost faith in Willey and Ball is struggling they will probably consider Broad who could come straight in to the side. Why they bowled Ball in the middle overs and didn't squeeze an extra couple of overs from Ali who was pretty economical is a bit of a mystery. Was Rashid just dropped because they feel Bangladesh are better against spin or because of his inconsistency. If it was the latter is Dawson poised to replace him in the team in ODI and possibly Test Matches.

Rashid has been pretty consistent this year and when he gets the chance to bat, he does pretty well. There was no reason to keep him out but the thinking was obviously Bang and spin.
