Akram is in the 2nd tier of Test ATG bowlers. Herath is too. Obviously Herath doesn't have a great away record but he has one of the best home records to counter that imo.
Why is Akram 2nd tier? No way is he significantly worse than Marshall /Imran /Steyn /McGrath.

That's interesting because I'd certainly put Akram in the 1st tier when we talk about ATG bowlers.

Out of curiosity - who is in your tier 1 and tier 2 in general??

Or did you mean - specifically Left arm bowlers ? I doubt it because that doesn't make any sense either...

How do you even begin to compare Wasim and Herath. Different bowling styles, different roles, different modus operandi...
This is what I tell people when they say I'm not as good a bowler as Warne

He isn't significantly worse. I guess it depends on how you define tiers.

The most clear reason is he barely got more than 4 wpm while the others you mention mostly get comfortably above 4.5 wpm.

The sharing wickets argument doesn't explain that completely since his SR is also not amazing for a fast bowler. Another point is that 35% of his wickets were of tail-enders (8-11). The others you mentioned all have lower rates (most sub-30%). His compatriot Waqar's rate was 29%.

So Wasim does slightly worse than the top tier in terms of wpm and quality of wickets. I'm talking 5-10% so not a significant difference at all.

You of all people should know ratings systems don't make everyone happy
Regardless of our differences in the Wasim-Herath debate, I must say that I completely agree with you on the above point. A ranking system must be brave and objective enough to challenge popular opinion when necessary.

I always maintained to never compare fast bowlers with spinners – both are totally different. Also, there should be a ranking system separately for both spin and fast bowling. I'm expecting Sri Lanka to win this 2nd test as Bangladesh does not have the quality to win away from home even in West Indies and Zimbabwe. Even without Herath, they will lose this test. Sri Lanka show far better application than Bangladesh. The ODI series is far more interesting, and is something I am looking forward to unlike this test series. Fizz has been below par ever since he has returned from his injury. Taskin pace seems to have gotten slower and is definitely not express. He cannot maintain speeds above 140 in tests. Sri Lanka are a quality side at home, and can possibly beat India if they wanted to.

They're still really poor away from home aren't they, but at least competitive in their own backyard.
Ok I would wait for at least few years of consistent test performances at home before making that call. They have just won 1 home test. Other than that, there is no evidence to suggest they are any better in home tests.
2015 which was their peak as an international side, just have a look at their tests against India and Pakistan that year after beating both in the ODIs.

Congrats to SL and Herath. Thoroughly outplayed. There are so many problems with BD team. No idea what to do with them. They dont lack anything. Starting from pays to facilities you name it.
What they lack is a concerted focus on long form cricket starting from the board level.

How serious is the cricket board on building a potent test side? The masses are happy with ODI success you get the impression the board is just too happy to take credit for that and keep things as they are. There has been no effort to improve FC. The highest scorers there are still national discards like Tushar Imran and Shahriar Nafees.

Players who get classified as 'test cricketer' are seen as relegated cricketers. They barely get opportunities to play and improve
Case in point - Jubair Hossain, Mohammad Shahid and now Mominul Haq.

And then of course there's the lack of opportunity. Playing 2 test matches a year is not helping the team develop fitness, stamina or just the mental ability to be used to playing for 5 days.

ICC and the Bigger boards in charge of cricket schedules and calendars is obviously to blame for this but BCB is not without blame either. They have a lot of money now, a lot of sponsors and if they want, they can actively pursue other teams to improve their test schedule.

Dont even know why Liton was dropped in the first place after SA tests. Then they brought in Nurul and dont know why he got dropped after NZ series. Then they brought Liton again and dropping him now. WTF?

Brought Nazmul in NZ and then dropped him. Mosaddek should have been playing there. Now he is given a chance here and I bet he is going to be dropped in the next test.

Mominul is dropped because of failures in two tests?
