I don't know about this tbh. Rahane never really looked comfortable against O'Keefe or Lyon, and Saha simply didn't look up to it in these conditions.

Maybe they would have managed to eke out the sort of 20-odd scores needed to avert a total collapse which is what the Aus batsmen did really well and allowed them to construct a manageable sort of total bit by bit, but that's the most you could say.
Hard to look comfortable starting on that wicket at all. One of those being dropped, a couple of bad balls/good shots and suddenly you're away.

Trying to think of other test matches where a team that was meant to win easily, in familiar conditions, did everything wrong (well mostly) to lose a test so badly and a team that was meant to perform badly in not-so-friendly conditions completely dominated the favorites in both batting and bowling.

Thought ***** was on about Jaddu therE? Anyways, I still think Ash was easily our best bowler. He was giving away 4 balls coz he was trying too much, esp. in the second innings with all the drops and the situation of the game dictating that we needed to bundle them out quickly to have any kind of chance but whatever. He needs to improve his patience and discipline in such situations but was plain annoying to see the comms go on about how Jadeja was the best bowler. He was not, you dipshits.
When a spinner is allowing MMarsh to stay still or rock back to punch the ball through cover region in a test match on a spinning pitch, he cannot be termed as our best bowler.

Rahane on balance had more good luck than bad though. A lot of balls popping up off the glove near fielders and the like.

I think Yadav was the best bowler after SOK
Yadav has an amazing story in that he played fc cricket within 18 months of playing his first match with a hard ball.

Guy had literally been playing in the street with a tennis ball before that.

Really good to see him do well (but not too well)

Well there was this loss, also apparently on a minefield of a pitch

Only Test: England v Australia at The Oval, Aug 28-29, 1882 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

Match has left scars to this day.

Nostrils was immense. If India had half a dozen of him they'd be able to draw the odd test away ;)

Anyone who tells you luck doesn't decide matches in cricket is lying. I'm not saying Australia won purely because of luck, but I'm sure a lot more went their way and they probably weren't as much better than India as 333 runs suggests.

One of the eye-opening examples of this for me was in the last Ashes, think it was Trent Bridge. Australia were all out for 60 in the first innings, then in the second innings they got to 0-60 and everyone was going on about how much better they were playing. Having watched both innings I can tell you that was mostly bull****. In the first innings there wasn't a single play and miss until Australia were like 8-down. Every time the batsman was beaten the ball found the edge and went to a slip fielder. And in the second innings Warner and Rogers played and missed literally over a dozen times but the ball just never found the edge.

That's an extreme example but I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happened here, ie.O'Keefe kept getting the edges going to fielders whereas Jadeja just kept ripping it past. Luck can play a huge role, even if it should even out in the long run.
Yea but SOK did us because we kept playing for the turn, which is how jadeja generally gets a lot of wickets. Ashwin got out by getting forward and leaving his bat behind his pad in the second innings (LOL!) and kohli would've been out that way too had Smith reviewed in that second innings which is just ridiculous. You have to be absolutely forward or absolutely back here, if you still get dismissed doing that so be it.

He's not quite as side on and ripping the ball with his body as much as I remember him doing in Australia. Whether that's injury related or about the best way to bowl in the conditions, I'm not sure.
