I had such high hopes for that group - Parnell and Rossouw in particular (particularly after he made that 300 in a FC game shortly after) and to a lesser extent Pienaar and Smuts.

I will never forget when Brett Lee was bowling him out-swingers and he couldn't lay bat-on-ball. Sure he was young then but it was about that strong right-hand technique and strength on leg-side. Taking nothing away from him though. This is his format and he can score runs and like you say, lets see how his dartish bowling goes.

It's amazing how the careers have gone with that u19 batch. Who has actually lived up to their potential ?

Pieter Malan
Jon-Jon Smuts
Reeza Hendricks
Rilee Rossouw
Jonathan Vandiar
Yaseen Vallie
Obus Pienaar
Wayne Parnell
Vallie is also a serious talent isn't he?

Matt Arnold as well with the ball. Was a really good bunch of young cricketers led by Parnell who was probably the best U19 cricketer going. Lost in the U19 WC final to Kohli and Jadeja's India, didn't they?

They all 27,28 and even turning 29 soon so they probably were 'talents'

I remember when they were younger, Peter Kirsten, used to rave about Yaseen Vallie. Sort of stagnated like Malan, Vandiar and Pienaar.

Problem with Highveld tests and time of year or not really ?

I know some people have returned to work and some are still on holiday but we need a better crowd for Hash's 100th

Most people are back at work.

Saturday there'll be a good crowd in. I'm planning on going.

Keep the Wanderers for 20/20s and ODIs. Centurion was relatively well attended for the NZ test. I know Bangladesh are getting Bloemfontein and Potchefstroom later this year but I wouldn’t mind seeing a test match at Paarl. If Cape Town can’t get two tests a year, they should at least reward the Western Cape for their support for test cricket.

Wanderers gets better crowds in than Kingsmead for Tests...

A lot better, Wanderers should definitely still get Tests.

Yaseen Vallie or Yaseen Valli? Valli also played for the u19 team, but he's a bit younger, and I'm not sure which one is regarded as the better player.
The young one at the Lions / Gauteng is meant to be decent but Yaseen Vallie who is playing against the Cobras today for the Warriors had a big rep as a youth international. Both him and Vandiar were more than useful with the ball as well.

If I ranked test support right now.

Newlands
Centurion
Wanderers
St George's
Kingsmead

Bloem and Potch are actually very decent wickets. It's such a fine line. Crowd support but types of pitches that lends to bringing in the crowds. Turgid pitches like Benoni, Paarl, Buffalo Park, PMB are probably not what you want. Kimberley used to be a great pitch for batting but you don't know what you getting anymore there either.

I get what you saying about Western Cape but that Paarl pitch can be very unpredictable. Not Benoni bad but it has had it's days.

Talking about future test venue. Oudsthoorn is looking like a real option. Just hosted their first franchise game, plus hosted Africa T20 Cup finals, they now hosting the SA u19 side and rumours are they will be the 7th franchise. Really strong rumours.
