I would say that his exclusion is the most puzzling one, especially since he played in the against Australia when they were here and then went over there after Steyn got injured, so he clearly has recently been in the selectors' minds. If the T20 squad was just made up of players unlikely to feature in the ODIs then him not being there might make more sense, but you would have thought that Behardien, Tahir, Miller, Parnell, Phangiso, and Phehlukwayo would also make the ODI squad, so it doesn't look like an either/or selection.Just odd a fringe ODI player like Dwaine Pretorius isn't there.
Looks like the squad was selected on the basis of rewarding the guys who did well in this seasons domestic 20/20, and guys who may have a future in other formats. That’s presumably why Hendricks and Paterson were selected as they didn’t have a great domestic 20/20 and if you are selecting on the basis of form, Kruger should have got the nod over Hendricks and there were a number of bowlers who performed better than Paterson as well. Surprised Shamsi wasn’t selected. Tahir is the number 1 bowler in international 20/20s but Shamsi is the future and is made for 20/20. Keep Tahir for the ODIs / Champions Trophy. Would have gone with Klaasen over Kuhn as well but Kuhn could still have a test career, and may tour to New Zealand as backup to de Kock.Kuhn and JJ Smuts have been around the traps so I don't think they will represent another country but I see what you trying to say.
In that squad I wouldn't say there is the next QdK or Rabada besides maybe de Bruyn/Ngidi. Obviously Phehluwkayo also has a bit about him too.
Just odd a fringe ODI player like Dwaine Pretorius isn't there. Chris Morris needs to get overs under his belt as well.
But percentages definitely looks like the plan while they testing where some players are quite clearly.
Bit like David Wiese before he debuted, statistically phenomenal but didn't look too hot with bat or ball. Could have a test career but I wouldn't back him to get through 10 overs in many ODIs, or be a banker for 4 overs in 20/20.I would say that his exclusion is the most puzzling one, especially since he played in the against Australia when they were here and then went over there after Steyn got injured, so he clearly has recently been in the selectors' minds. Think it’s the bowling which helped get him selected. Batting he is more Richard Levi lite but both he and Ackermann were great with the ball for the Warriors. Interested to see if what he bowls (flat darts) will work on the international stage. He does deserve it. Just suits limited overs cricket with his all-round ability. Those slow left-armers of his have been tough to get away for years.
"At Wanderers I think there's extra pace and bounce, but as a subcontinent nation it's the seam movement that makes things difficult for us," he said. "I think we should be able to improve on the batting side, since the pitch doesn't seam as much, from what we know. You can't tell until you play, but I'm hopeful this will be more suited to us."
It is a bit of a mixture. Rewarding T20 form, percentages, looking how players deal with international environment.Looks like the squad was selected on the basis of rewarding the guys who did well in this seasons domestic 20/20, and guys who may have a future in other formats. ODI squad ?I would say that his exclusion is the most puzzling one, especially since he played in the against Australia when they were here and then went over there after Steyn got injured, so he clearly has recently been in the selectors' minds. I see the new groundsman at Wanderers reckons bounce but good wicket for run-scoring ?
Pacer-friendly Wanderers may pose bigger problems for Sri Lanka | Cricket | ESPN CricinfoThey are also dealing with the onset of the 'Kolpakalypse', which in this Test, takes the form of having to replace Kyle Abbott, who went to Hampshire to be able to pay for groceries.
Yeah, I had the same thought when I was readingit, Fernando is about ten thousand times better than Moonda, glad he wrote the preview. Was surprised for a moment that Moonda came up with something that funny. Happy to know she didn't.
Sri Lanka is three-and-a-half hours ahead of Cape Town. Perhaps you watched the morning session, left for dinner, played a sport, spent time with family, read a book, watched a movie, and thought to check back with the cricket, to cap off the day.South Africa were batting when you had last watched. Now, already, they are batting again.
This is not the highlights they are playing. It is not a rain break. This is just what it's like to watch Sri Lanka overseas.
That was the vodka and coathangers of cricket journalism. It was staggeringly awful.Fernando is really funny.
Moonda's magnum opus was the one with all those forced metaphors about fairy tales. God that was painful.
I will never forget when Brett Lee was bowling him out-swingers and he couldn't lay bat-on-ball. Sure he was young then but it was about that strong right-hand technique and strength on leg-side. Taking nothing away from him though. This is his format and he can score runs and like you say, lets see how his dartish bowling goes.Think it’s the bowling which helped get him selected. Batting he is more Richard Levi lite but both he and Ackermann were great with the ball for the Warriors. Interested to see if what he bowls (flat darts) will work on the international stage.
