Having seen the highlights, great caught and bowled from Tastle - looks like he and Jeets both bowled very well.

Van Beek off the boundary for that catch near the end a bad miss though.

Yeah can't underestimate the hand Matt Taylor played. That one over where he swatted way over the rope was crucial. That over sealed the game, about 15 runs came in that over. That was a costly miss by Van Beek.

mate i was worried when our players started playing too well and got black caps call ups

need the selectors to see what's important here
Jeets too crucial for firebirds, glad they didn't pursue with him for twenty 20s. Looks like everything is going firebirds' way with Ross Taylor out with a side strain. He did that playing a reverse sweep in the nets. If firebirds can get one more across that'll be a fairy tale finish to twenty 20 comp. Need to find a way to get Mahela early. He's not even working hard to make runs he's playing in the first gear and still scoring heaps :-(

Wellington A beat ND with a V Jeet picking up 5 wickets. I wasn't familiar with him, but sounds like quite a promising left arm spinner who has moved from Akl. He played the one first class game for Akl in early 2015 with 3/87 for the match. I'll be interested to see if he gets a game for Wellington if Jeetan Patel gets called up while the plunket shield is on.

Vishi Jeet (22) is one of Auckland cricket’s brightest spin bowling prospects. The left-arm spinner has dominated Premier Club cricket for the Auckland University over the past few seasons and he was finally rewarded with his first-class debut against the Northern Knights in February 2015.
His selection followed his record-breaking exploits for Auckland at the National Provincial A Tournament. He was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament (18 wickets at 15.72) and, in doing so became the highest wicket-taker ever in a single National Provincial A tournament.

he was originally a left-arm seamer. He was a stand-out for Avondale College 1st XI, with his highlight - a record-breaking marathon spell of 6-62 from 42.5 consecutive overs.

An injury though forced Jeet to take up spin bowling, under the guidance of former Indian State player Barrington Rowland, who has mentored Jeet for the past 7 years...Jeet endured a long winter, working on his game, to include a month’s coaching camp in Delhi (India).Jeet endured a long winter, working on his game, to include a month’s coaching camp in Delhi (India).

Yeah I haven't seen much of Matt Taylor, looks like he's played quite a few T20s now without a huge impact, though is only 24.

These lads just smash it, few years ago coaches would have cringed if consistently hit in the air. The batting across the country even at rep cricket has now changed absolutely. They just smash it if it's in their slot. I suppose that is good for cricket in general? No fear approach and that's the brand of cricket that sells these days I suppose. A quick 20 in a super smash gets noticed way more than a well fought first class knock? I'm all for change and considering the lads that can smash it will be on the forefront than a solid player I can see why the lads want quick runs. At the moment good quick runs is the order of the day and once in the set up with some quick run scoring they can develop I suppose. It used to be the other way around as recent as 5 years ago. It's very hard to pick players that will go the distance now with so many batters offering more of the same. Days of Kane like batting is numbered?

Now just to add some semblance to the proceedings here's the Wellington lad playing cricket traditional style. Is there room for this style of cricket in future? Still scores at good pace but will this cut the way batting is heading. He's still young and just turned 17 as per cricinfo and may develop plenty over the years. I think it's tough to coach someone like this, I'd be worried to tweak anything in the fear the technique may change. With this technique he'll go a long way but will he hang on to it over the years knowing fully well if you can smash it and you're a front runner for the next level?

By the way - after yesterday let there never be the moronic idea of neutral venues for Super Smash finals again!

He's not in the u18 squad though playing in the A tournament currently, I take it there's a sensible reason? Although don't recall him scoring big in the u19 tournament this year.

All the young fast bowlers have front on actions now.

Guess we've reached the stage where no young up and comer started before the back injury science trickled down to all coaching levels.

He was one of the top three run getters in the 19s tourney I thought with a buggered shoulder. Didn't bowl though. The Hutt lads said he's had an op for the shoulder and out of action for a bit. Watched him in one of the prem club games couple of months ago and he's a class batter/bowler. Single handedly won the game picking 5 fer and scoring something like 70 or 80 at Kilbernie.

Looking forward to the super smash finals today. Hoping for a close game with a finish in the last over preferably in favour of Firebirds. I'm picking Jesse and Grant to make a huge impact. Wish it was at Basin, Pukekura park just doesn't inspire for a big game such as this. Too small a ground for an occasion such as this.

CD has the home advantage though, and Pukekura is definitely a better option than McLean Park or Yarrow Stadium. Both would have looked pretty empty today.

NZC and Sky TV have made a success of the Super Smash this season. A success because it has enabled Kiwi cricket fans to more readily see the exciting cricket talent NZ possesses. And that fresh talent has drawn crowds to user friendly Venues. Hopefully selected matches in the Ford Trophy One Day Comp which starts soon will also be televised. It's never too late to change your mind Sky and NZC.
