yeah I know, which is why I think its lame. He's taking a potshot, rather than giving a proper opinion that he genuinely believes. He's just extending his agenda.
Agree, I hate anyone who tries to character assassinate Steve Waugh, that guy took talent and turned it into a relentless death squad that would hunt victory every single time they played, yeah, he had McGrath, Gillespie and Warne at the peak of their powers, but he also turned up more often than not for his team and made **** happen.

Probably my favorite cricketer of all time.

Warne never did like Waugh, I think because Waugh didn't value the bullshit with Warne, and was an advocate that MacGill could do just as good of a job in the day.

It's ironic though, that Mark Waugh and Shane Warne were so close for so long. Tugga on the other hand was sterner stuff and didn't like the fat kid with amazingly blessed talent.
He didn't like him because he was preferred as captain. Before that they were fine.

Are they purposely not bowling Lyon in case he does well here?

Edit: Warne says the same thing, Perhaps he doesn't want him touring India.

Regardless of the off field ****, and as good as his brain is for tactics, I think Warne would have been a huge problem as captain of Australia, he would have played favorites like no ones business.

Waugh was the perfect captain to take that talent and make it relentless, and the hallmark of his team got Punter through much of his era, but it's telling that despite having some pretty rare talent since (Warner, Khawaja, Smith, Clarke, Starc, Johnson, Haze, Pattinson), Australia hasn't even looked close to being what they were in that era, even when Warne went missing for diuretics.

McGrath is a big part of that, but I also think it's the culture the team built under Waugh. They were good under Border, great under Taylor but ****ing phenomenal under Waugh.

I don't mind the tactic of bowling the quicks at Amir, let's not forget he's looked pretty comfortable in this series against Lyon.

I think you give them a few overs (which did get the wicket) before going back to Lyon to finish the day, while alternating attack at the other end. While you might say that Lyon's wickets today means he should be bowling, take a look at how those wickets were given, they weren't exactly him ripping the ball past a defensive batsman.

And there you go. Taken off the pressure completely. No doubt the Lyon apologetics will now say that he should have bowled when Sarfraz wasn't set.

Why would you want to bowl Lyon against Sarfraz and Amir?
Probably because he took 3 top-order wickets.

Think we've missed a trick by going to our quicks first. Given how well their tail's batted this series it might get hard to force a result now.

Well, yeah. But also, the fact that these guys can play aggressively (and prefer to) can play into Lyon's hands. Not the best first over, though.
