in regards to the target/follow on, as far as I'm concerned, the whole thing is built around the (arrogant and hopefully now debunked) belief that chasing 450 or higher is impossible. clarke was on commentary when it happened and he was talking about it in terms of "there's enough runs". i wonder if usman and burns pointed out they chased down 470 two years ago...The Home of CricketArchive
I remember Pakistan, in a similar situation, pushing on and setting 600 against us...

In fairness, what counts as "enough runs" to Clarke is somewhat different to everyone else

I think Australia got too obsessed with the thought of the new ball under lights. I reckon they'd have batted on in normal circumstances.
