Yasir has some batting ability too. Rahat the only true bunny, though the way these guys have been playing he'll pull another ridiculous 30-odd out of his arse.

Pakistan are so great when they turn up.

Nah, no need. The bottom level of Mr. Pickwick's Fine Old Books should cover almost everyone. Cricket books galore. And if not, just buy them fancy beer and **** from The Carrington around the corner. They stock a pineapple cider that I can't find anywhere in Sydney, get on that stuff, fantastic.

To be 67-8 after the opposition score over 400 and still have a chance going to the last day is some effort regardless of what the declaration was.

Why? They are still 100 ahead. If they knock over 2 for 20 tomorrow why is the declaration bad considering the rain?
Well yeah but I'm sure Aus would have like some more cushion in hindsight, this hasn't been a fun session for them.

Shouldn't really account for the forecast. At the time of his declaration there were 7 full sessions of play left. At the very least they should have batted half of another session for another 70 runs. Something close to 550 would have put the game totally out of Pakistan's reach. On a deck as flat as this vs a mercurial side like Pakistan you don't really want to give them a sniff. It's the first match of a series and not a dead rubber.

Because that's just deciding on something uncertain. Brisbane has the world's best drainage system anyway and it is unlikely that a lot of play would have been lost even if it had poured down as predicted. Australia are still favourites(and would already have won if Smith had taken Shafiq's catch) but you should never leave 7 sessions for a side to chase 489(on a pancake such as this especially). If he was that concerned about the forecast he should have made them follow on.

Yeah the follow-on point is fair, but if they take 2 for 10 tomorrow and win by 100-odd, having set a world record chase, don't see how its a bad declaration. Particularly since they would have won by 100 after dropping catches.
