37th Match, Pool A: New Zealand v Bangladesh at Hamilton, Mar 13, 2015 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

People are overrating New Zealand, and underestimating Bangladesh. In that world cup match, you not only had Danny, but the fast bowlers were swinging the ball a lot, yet Bangladesh almost scored 300 which is a par score in these grounds: let's be honest. Also, there was no Mashrafe or Fizz participating, so looks to me Bangladesh could win this series 2-1 at least. I would gamble in that 1st ODI, and play 4 fast bowlers consisting of Mashrafe, Fizz, Taskin and Rubel despite New Zealand weakness against spin.

Not sure why you are so tempted to play four fast bowlers. Just because its NZ? I dont think Chandika will go down to this route either.

For what it's worth, I'm all for the Broom selection. People are entitled to go away and get better. He hasn't played ODI cricket for six years, we're not picking 2010 Neil Broom. Averaged 84, 54 and 52 in his last three full NZ List A summers so that will do me. No one else is beating down the door, and it looks like he's a straight swap for Ross.

The wicketkeeping one is almost Fawlty Towers-selection style, however. Drop Ronchi, bring in BJ, bat him at 5, 6 and 8 in different stages in ODIs - none of which he is suited to - then drop BJ again for Ronchi, who hasn't really had to do anything at domestic level. Oh, and then have Larsen say Ronchi is our best ODI wicketkeeper batsman. So why was BJ in Australia? Ronchi now needs to be given the summer, with Blundell/Seifert ready to go the following one.

And the sooner we get another proper death option, whether that is Mitch, Nutall or someone in the squad is developed, the better.

The one blessing of this tour is in the past the prospect of Bangladesh touring here has bored me senseless, as has the cricket that followed, but all the hype from some Bangers fans and neutrals this time around at least makes it semi-interesting.

I do think some have been led into a false sense of security and have forgotten these conditions are not turning mud heaps in Dhaka.

^That's a strange post. Take out the hype from the Bangers fan (and let's be honest, it's just Energetic), you don't see any improvement in the BD side in the last few years? Have you seen them play at all? That's strange considering the last 9 games between these two sides has Bangladesh leading 8-1. And the mud heaps in Dhaka for the England series were a first.

It's not really strange at all, it's just an honest post. Bangers have improved of late and are very competitive in their own backyard, but NZ isn't an easy place for any side to win ODIs series, let alone Asian sides. India were thumped 4-0 a couple of years ago, and Australia lost here earlier this year, and I think the last to win here was SA, so I think it's fair to point out that NZ conditions are much different to Dhaka and that some of their recent form does seem to have led a few into a false sense considering she's a much different beast for Bangers in NZ condition with the extra bouncer, swing and seam.

Hey, I might end up with egg on my face, & I'm prepared for that, but I don't think that makes my post weird as of this moment. Take a look at the pre-series odds with the bookies.

Hey I am not suggesting Bangladesh are winning this series. No. New Zealand are favourites and unless they **** it up, they should comfortably win 3-0. But I just felt you were not rating Bangladesh as a side at all which is unfair. As you said, India were thumped 0-4 yet we don't say the same thing about them right because we recongize they are still a good side. Bangladesh might lose 0-3 too but they are still a good ODI side.

Tbf, I did say I'm semi-interested this time around, after usually finding them touring quite boring and also, they've never won any international game (test, ODI or T20) against NZ in NZ have they?

Bangladesh will offer plenty, I'd be surprised if they didn't take an ODI and a T20 at least and compete in the rest. Unless they encounter hooping white balls or green pitches - which based on the golf course I played today, which was rock hard and brown, curators will find it hard to achieve.

Our ODI side is far from the one at the World Cup 18 months ago, and the T20 side is probably even less impressive. I don't know much about Bangladesh, admittedly, but if there's an unorthodox nature to the way they go about it with bat and ball, that's a real recipe for surprise down here if they back themselves to do it (ie unlike subcontinent sides in the last couple of years in NZ).

The main problem for Bangladesh will be their bowling. I can see their seamers being ripped apart by Guptill and it will just be too much for the battling line up to chase. I am still quite excited to see Tamim and Mahmudullah go about it.

Mortaza is suited to NZ conditions and is a decent limited overs operator, right? We struggle against left-arm spin, so Shakib is always in the game. And the Fizz - aka Kane's nemesis - is back, right? I dunno, it's not like the days when Khaled Mahmud used to run in and bowl 105km first change. I readily admit I don't know too much about them but based on results in the sub-continent they can clearly play, and it's not like it's a completely different sport when they come down here. Won't be cold and seamy like Pakistan got, and Sri Lanka the summer before.

I'm losing my sleep over the batting position of Shabbir snd Mullah. If Shabbir plays at 3 then Mullah HAS to play as finisher. But Mullah outside subcontinent is one of our key batsmen if not THE most key batsman so using him as finisher is not making sense to me in NZ esp anymore. I think Mullah has to bat at top 4 and send Shabbir lower down the order because I am not sure how well he'll cope with swinging conditions early on. We need to go back to last WC formula. Tamim and Imrul to open followed by Soumya at #3.

1. Tamim
2. Imrul
3. Soumya
4. Mullah
5. Shakib
6. Mushfiq
7. Shabbir
8. Miraz
9. Mashrafe
10. Taskin
11. Mustafiz

I want Bangladesh to slowly squander dominant positions in tests so that I can enjoy seeing ***** melt down.
