Yet just a month ago Indian fans on here were saying Rahane and Pujara were better than him in tests. Silly stuff.
Because he hadn't done anything better than them. You don't get points for being the best batsman in the team in terms of sheer ability.. You have to perform better than your teammates.

Virat Kohli (c)
They weren't serious about that though, surely.
Nah they were:

As I said zinzan. Silly stuff.

Pujara:
Home record: 8 tons, average of 63.97
Away record: 2 tons, average of 33.37

Kohli:
Home record: 6 tons, average of 58.17
Away record: 9 tons, average of 44.61

The bloke has 9 centuries outside of India, 7 more than Pujara ffs. He's been better than Pujara for 3 years minimum.

Rahane's record away is elite but he's not delivering consistently at home, and people were saying its good that he's injured as it'll strengthen India's batting. Yeah that guy's definitely better than Kohli.

That's fair, but the others had him beat mainly on consistency (and not completely tanking on one tour). They hadn't managed to come close to hitting the heights that he had achieved either (Australia tour).

Anyway, right now he's in superhuman form, so everyone's going to look 2nd rate compared to him. But he is human and will have a letdown at some point, so let's hope they can pick up the slack when that happens.

Nothing Kohli has done vs. NZ and England during this Indian home tour changes the fact he'd scored 9 tons away including 4 on one tour vs. Australia. It was just dumb thinking Pujara was better than him.

Pujara is a FTB/HTB who will get out bowled/lbw 9/10 times to a very good spinner/pacer. Thnakfully he scored a ton vs Steyn in SA or his record would be worse than it is now.

Rahane on the other hand is pretty good. Has been India's best batsman away from home in pace friendly conditions.

Kohli was the best Indian bat before this series.

Such a CW thing when you're proven wrong to just say "well now he's better but I was right at the time."

Basically means you'll never be able to be proven wrong. Richard style posting.

Guarantee had Kohli had a poor series it'd be all" see see the ugly **** with no runs outside Asia in the last 3 years is the best, told you so"

Yeah i don't rate those Australian tons any higher than domestic runs.

Luckily that still leaves 5 other overseas tons, more than twice as many as Pujara has.

Pujara and Rahane comparisons were more than fair no matter what Jono pretends now. And this is from someone who's always believed Kohli was better anyway.

Also, this is nothing, there were threads on PakPassion arguing Azhar Ali was better than Virat Kohli. Azhar ****ing Ali.

My point is you can't be Indias best bat if you average a pile of **** away from home. Simple.

Its ****ing obvious to everyone but hipster Indian fans on CW that want to try and big up batsmen who aren't Kohli to try and be different. He is head and shoulders above Pujara and has been since 2014. So what if he's a poster boy, he's just the best in the team. It's okay to be wrong.

I am not even disagreeing with this. But Kohli's test accomplishments pre this season were not "head and shoulders" above Pujara. Kohli had the overseas performances, and Pujara had by far the better home performances. It wasn't even close. Also Rahane, has a superb overseas record. Are you now going to pretend he wasn't atleast comparable too? Come on Jono.
