The Kane Williamson Average Watch thread

Will Kane average 50 in both ODIs and Tests at some point before Feb 2017?

Williamson happens to have a large sample size in challenging conditions. Smith doesn't.
He's played one more test than Smith in SA and averages 21 there. This isn't even trolling, it's just Aspy-like obsession.

Oh you mean to tell me the season Voges dominated West Indies and Australia wasn't the season Smith went from a middling 40 to 58 average?

The delusion is real, the myth is propogated.
Smith has been gunning it since the home ashes in 2013-14. Almost a full two seasons before Voges debuted.

Hey Rootfan

Why did you pick this username? to hide that you are a Kohli fanboy?
Hello slog. Did you pick your username here to prove how much of an internet warrior you are? Kohli is a good batsman; Smith, Amal, Abd well ahead of him currently and Root and Williamson are thereabouts. Now you mention it I am probably a Smith and AB fanboy. I'll change my name to Younis Khan fan if he averages 45+ in Aus :D

So I did a cricinfo query and it turns out Smith averages 5.04. What an absolute spud.

Also relevant, Kaneh looks like this:

nawwwwwwwwwww

I didn't realize Smith had such a good record in South Africa tbt, fair play.
TBF, the wickets in that series were a fair bit flatter than what you'd expect from South Africa, a bit more Australian like.

Still batted very well though.

The pitch where he and Marsh got big scores to set up the game was definitely not flat by any stretch of the imagination.

Not Terrible
Blocky got triggered and started to criticise Smith because Burgey is an Aussie. Then people started **** posting. I think mostly because of the rain making the afternoon boring.

All your "Smith averages tons" stuff count for nothing when he's currently the batsman and captain prevailing over the worst Australian cricket run since the early 1980s.

He's not scored them when it matters, and his team frankly are **** performers against the best teams in conditions that aren't highway roads. You can cling to the idea you have that this isn't true, I don't mind.

I do think several Australian posters are struggling with their road identification skills. Here's a quick tutorial:

You know it's an Australian road if it looks like this:

... or the other way you know is if Australia is batting on it.

By contrast, young Kaneh has to put up with NZ roads which, as you can see from the below, would be quite difficult to bat on even for a master like Kaneh.

I hope this lesson has provided Australian posters some clarification on this issue.

You've got to be daft to think I need to be emotional to post this way, considering I've been doing it a decade.

Whatever it takes!!!
Chill out Blocky. Its one thing if you do not rate Smith and think he will be found out soon, quite another to not give him credit for the performances he has put up. I still rate Root and KW above Smith and Smith well above Virat in Test Cricket as far as this "fab four" go. BUt it doesn't mean Smith has not done very well, esp. in the recent past, or that he is not a good batsman who can potentially become one of the greats, just like the other 3.

I don't rate Smith, I also don't rate Taylor, I also don't rate Ashwin.

All of them have series and statistics you can use to counter that point, but all of them have more failings than successes when conditions got tough. If you like downhill skiing, then feel free to like those players. I prefer the guys that constantly average more than their team mates across all series because they're that much better, and show in tough conditions that they can find a way to succeed.

Smith hasn't done that yet, Williamson hasn't done it consistently enough, Root most definitely has more than the others have, Kohli is starting to show signs but none of them have the lineage of an Amla, or De Villiers or Sangakkara.

And my contention isn't that Smith is bad, my contention is that Smith is a guy whose talent means he should average 45, not 55, and without a bumper season against some of the worst bowling at test level you'll ever see from India and the Windies - that's exactly where he'd be.

Steve Smith wasn't playing a decade ago ffs.

Besides, I think you mostly used to stink up the NZ threads until your most recent incarnation.

"considering I've been doing it a decade" doesn't relate to Smith - has reading in Australia really gotten this bad? Seems you're awfully good at using statistically insignificant samples to denote your players as champions, but comprehension seems to be down a few logs.
