I don't truly believe it would make him a test cricketer but I've always wanted Guptill to let go and play tests like they're ODIs/T20 and just unleash like he does sometimes in white ball cricket.

It's what he did in 2008 when he couldn't even score red ball cricket runs for Auckland. Kept treading water with no ****s given 40-60 scores.

It was more fun than the serious version.

not sure how the bloke who belted murali for a bit as a kid, scored a ton in india on test debut, dealt with pakistan in the UAE and milked herath in SL is having so much trouble with a part timers straight breaks but hey it's been that kind of 18 months,.

the whole team need to rethink the whole "least threatening bowler india have" thing

You watch guys like Jadhav and Guptill picking up wickets and you do question whether there's any point to being a mediocre fast bowler. Bust your ass all day and get belted while a tubby little **** jogs in and picks up a couple. Even if he doesn't get any it's not like he wrecked his back and knees while doing so.

In saying that, when your number four is horribly out of form, and you have no substance from five downwards you probably feel as though you can't be too agressive in that you might lose your wicket.

If only we had another wicket keeping option that might add some sitting around somewhere in India....

honestly don't care how slow ross scores with this particular team structure. anderson is a gun odi cricketer but #5 doesn't really take advantage of his ability to smash it from ball one. it's all intent below these two apart from santa and ronchi/neesh haven't done anything in odis for ages.

Yeah but the real problem is that I don't think it's actually tactical. I think he's trying to score quicker than this but just really struggling to, and that's not a good sign for his batting in any format moving forward.

yeah i realise that, but it's not as counterproductive in this particular side as it would have been if watling or elliott 2015 were in next
