you're right though i'd like to note you picked a crappy example with the cowboys' JTs since they now call taumololo JT as well

i'm sick of ****ing thurston as well so long live the new JT
Jason Taylor was JT before Thurston had even debuted as well. JT seems like the town bike of NRL nicknames.

Blimey........guess I got told LOL.

I knew the Aussies were into nicknames, much more so than us Brits, but **** me backwards I had no idea it was so regimented. There is Nickname etiquette......seriously?? And such strict rules of inheritance too.......it's like the Royal Family, cept it's a bloody nickname.

Burgey, you know I love you man so I truly am sorry that I have disrespected the code, had I have been aware of said code I never would have dreamt of doing so. I also had no idea that you bestowed the title of TPC on Steve Smith (was this done at a formal ceremony btw?? I am picturing you standing in front of a young Steve down on one knee while you touch both his shoulders with a cricket bat........."arise The Peoples Champ"!!)

But if I may be so bold and with all due respect......maybe you could have given a little more thought to the name?? See, mine and a few others issue with The Peoples Champ moniker for Steve Smith, is that he's not really a champion of the people (just quietly a lot of "The people" don't like him much and think he's a little bit of a knob and cannot recognise him as their Champ) I just think that "The People" should encompass more than a half a dozen forumers.

TPC is indeed a grand nickname and should not have been bestowed lightly, it is only worthy of a true Champion of the people.......a global hero if you like, who all "The People" can get on board with. I think if you search your feelings you will agree that there is only one possible worthy candidate in World cricket today.

while this is true taylor is one of the few people in this world that can lay claim to having a face more punchable than joe root and steve smith combined

and that is enough of a reason for him to be kicked to the JT curb even if it's in favour of the man channel nine is perennially thursty for

With Anderson and Wood out, what team do we reckon England will go in the first test against Bangladesh? 3 seamers and 3 spinners?

Yea pretty much. I think Anderson being out makes selection easier anyway. I think it always made sense not to pick one of Anderson or Broad for team balance (they're going to be bit part contributors in Bangladesh, where having high quality seam isn't going to make a huge difference, it is more about grinding people out and being able to grind your way to dominating totals yourself) and the fact that they'll miss matches somewhere anyway. You wouldn't have really needed 4 seamers in Bangladesh. England's last series in Bangladesh showed that, Bresnan did more than Finn and Broad with his runs being important. England only had the four bowlers then and Swann had a very heavy workload.

I guess England will look something like:

Cook
Hameed/Duckett
Root
Ansari
Ballance
Stokes
Bairstow
Moeen
Woakes
Rashid
Broad

Will be good to see Broad batting in his rightful position.

Bangla board, go for rank turners.
Mirpur pitch will be most likely the one that was used for 2nd odi vs Afghans. Moisture underneath and on the slower side. Haven't ever seen a rank turner there iirc, kind of muddy and tough for batsmen

Chittagong pitch is always batting friendly and pretty much dead wicket.

Pretty sure there will be no rank turners in the series.

You reckon Ansari will bat at 4?!? I expect England will pick the same eleven, but with Ansari at 10 and everyone moved up one position (but with Bairstow at 5 and Stokes at 6).

Straussy out with England boys in Bangladesh. Could be in charge for the first warmup given that Bayliss is stuck in Aus with visa issues at present.

Thought Buttler spoke very well the other day. Softly spoken but natural and confident speaker in a tough situation. Not ideal for a keeper but certainly useful for a captain. Hopefully we see him in the field with either Billings (my preference) or Bairstow with the gloves.

Whilst obviously Anderson's injury is a bad thing, it at least solves the whole "fitting Woakes, Stokes, and three spinners into the side" problem.

I take your point, but solves it by meaning we have to pick worse players isn't really a solution in my opinion.

This isn't something I'd want to do anyway. In fact I'd probably still not do it.

The talk is that Moeen is pretty much going to play as a batting all-rounder though, but with him and Rashid in the side, just thunk they'll give a place to the SLAer, pretty much the side Scaly picked, but as Glosfan94 says with Ansari picked down the order, but more at 8, and Moeen up. In the end the "beard" was one of our better performers this summer with the bat, so it makes a lot of sense really. Certainly he's shown glimpses of being an International bat, maybe an idea to give him some matches in a position close to what he plays for his county.

3 seamers, 3 spinners and a strong batting line-up.

I've said this before in the England-Pakistan series thread. The kind of players England are producing now, they will be challenging the traditional notions of what makes a balanced test side more than anyone else in the next few years. I wouldn't be surprised to see an England side with 2 WK batsmen (Bairstow and Buttler) and 3 all rounders.
