Epic series. Gatting showed a bit of mettle. Clean sweep. :)
Hick made a ton in the third Test. Also Chris Lewis made a random century in one of the games. Paul Jarvis (who?) was their best bowler. Azhar made one of the best Test centuries I can remember at Eden Gardens. Remember that series so clearly, even though I preferred ODI cricket back then :)

Think Paul Jarvis might still be the youngest player to ever play in County Championship for Yorkshire. Just turned 16 IIRC.

After that series, a Bengali magazine published an article comparing the spin trio of Kumble-Raju-Chauhan with Bedi-Prasanna-Chandra :p

played well with the tailenders - do I remember that correctly?
Yeah I think so. Kambli made a double century on debut. I was kind of pissed that he stole the limelight from Sachin, who couldn't seem to get past that 160-170 barrier in Tests back then.

Ya remember when Lara made 375 we thought Kambli should surpass him someday lol

Dighe made those crucial runs at the end in 2001 vs. Aus in Chennai thankfully. Can't remember anything else he ever did.

Remember Mongia making a 150 in a one-off Test against Aus some time in the '90s also.

There was an exhibition game in the 90s and Dighe was exceptional in it catching and stumping really well. I always preferred him to Mongia but they preferred Mongia as he was the better keeper supposedly.

Whatever it takes!!!
Dighe was awful as a keeper to the spinners whenever he played in tests. Would have preferred him or Saba Karim for ODIs in the 90s while Mongia for the tests.

Saba Karim did establish himself to a certain extent before that injury to the Kumble ball. Years lost.

If you went by how assured and confident Saba Karim used to look while doing his punditry on various news channels, you'd almost be fooled into thinking he was an ATG or something. :D

Made a random Test century in West Indies. Amazingly, he's still only 34.
