Robbie Schaw's extended family turnng out for Hawke's Bay, perhaps? I think he was from round those parts.

Not a great match for Hurricane's lad Leopard though.

single 3 hour match causing a 2 week break? weird?
They were never going to be able to manage seven red ball rounds inside two months without it being a big disadvantage to the teams possessing high intensity seamers, like Nuttall or Kuggeleijn, I presume was the reasoning. Even three in a row was too taxing, it seems.

Yeah, and that actually fair enough.

I commented last week at how weak the line-ups were looking as attrition takes its toll.

7 in a row multi-day games does sound tough.

They should be trying to replicate international style cricket. So in NZ that would be 2 Plunket rounds, then 17 combined piefest and ford trophy games, then 2 plunket rounds, then 763 piefest and ford trophy games. Then winter break. Leave the other 6 Plunket rounds unplayed as pencilled-in doodles on a piece of scrap paper than has been blown down the back of David White's desk.

Immenso making a decent play at The Spirit of Kippax award this year.

So, Nathan Smith didn't play in that inter-island game? Meanwhile North Otago lost the Hawke Cup.

NORTH OTAGO vs HAWKE'S BAY

Is there any particular reason why Smith didn't play in the inter-island? Total waste not having him play in either match. Also robbed me of my chance to name-drop and took North Otago's best player (potentially, ever!) out of their biggest match for 5 years.

I think it's best described as a dick move by NZ Cricket.

a fair few blokes in the North Otago lower order hardly got a bowl, poor buggers.

that Cant bloke seems to be doing pretty well for himself, taking wickets and batting in the top order. is he on the Otago radar?

Blame the captain.

Hmm yeah he's always been a pretty consistent performer. Played a bit for Otago A a few seasons back and was in the Canterbury U20s when at Lincoln.

Probably would have preferred to have actually played in a game that weekend.
Every schoolboy outswing bowler in New Zealand would dream of sending a few down in the Basin nets to Test regulars Latham and Nicholls (to get a few poles I mean). Maybe he just choked a bit.

The North vs South match was a bit of a bust; in seeing Sodhi take four wickets without really bowling that well it made me depressed that our domestic batting was that bad and that maybe, Sodhi's seven for was more to do with that than anything else.

All hail Taylor though, he looked in top form with some of those shots. :)

I headed along to Taita vs Petone at the Basin tonight. Crowd was a lot better than the mid-week Georgie Pie Super Smash games they had at the Basin this year haha.

Anyway, it was tied after 20 overs and went to the super over. Taita batted first and Ryder's block hole bowling restricted them to 6, and Petone got there with a ball to spare.

Could have gone either way in the second innings. Taita lacked some big hitting to put the game away, and Petone had some bad pieces of fielding. They were never gonna lose the super over with Ryder in their side, though.

Missed the game due to child care duties.

Shame that Taita lost, but Petone haven't won anything in years. Much rather them than most other teams in the region. At least it's staying in the Hutt.
