Pretty good tour, but NZ definitely a bit disappointing with the ball this series.

Good speech from Baz, WAG.

Away win for Aus nothing to sneeze about.

It's not BS logic when you consider most teams today are average sides, that's why it's so difficult to determine who the best side in world cricket is at the moment (with the fall of SA).
What you can or cannot say has nothing to do with the country you were born in or the team you support.

Looks like this thread is gonna die as it lived - covered in ****.

Anyway, back to the drawing board for New Zealand. We were a little unlucky missing Taylor in this series and having Southee's prep ruined by injury (not to mention Boult's season long woefullness with the ball) but ultimately we just weren't in the same ball park as Australia. What's particularly frustrating is that the team actually played worse than they did in Australia as a unit. Kane's got a big job ahead which isn't great given his mediocre form. Really wish Boult and Southee were gearing up for a season of county cricket rather than heading off to the IPL - though at least they'll have some good bowling coaches working on them there.

It is BS logic to say that your team's results disqualifies you from saying anything about other team's results, positive or negative.

BS logic.
Look at the **** you post.

Look, Spark! A passive aggressive smiley! Infract him!
PEWS is a stoner; confirmed.
Disappointed you didn't do it. You had a glorious opportunity right there to join us cool edgy infraction-laden posters, but instead chickened out because you got no ballz.

Don't you see? Thats what he wants you to do.

Don't give him the pleasure Spark.
inb4 OS and passive agressive smiley
KV is just PEWS when he's stoned.
Reckon he's trying too hard to get infracted here so he can be like one of the cool kids.

Hope Spark keeps ignoring him.
We had to put up with your BS too pal.

Disagree with 9 for Voges. Going by Runs at First Dismissal Voges scored about 10, 60 and 10*. That's an average of 40. Good, but properly worth a 5 or 6.

Anyone think Mark Craig should try and do a Mark Richardson and convert to opener? He has a higher career batting average than Stephen Fleming and that has to count for something.
Ha, I did jokingly mention exactly that to my brother during the last test. He's already halfway there (got the bowling yips ... if he ever didn't have them).

Honestly he does have quite a bit of batting potential, and even if he's unlikely to ever play for NZ as a batsman, I'd be concentrating on that discipline if I was him. I guess I think he's got a lot more potential for improvement with his batting.

It was sour grapes more than anything, the Aussies record against the top sides is no where as bad some make it out to be. The stat posted earlier, reflects that. Sure they're not as good they use to be, but they're still ranked number 1 in the world and have statistically only been bettered by a strong SA side.

Right, my sleep patterns have been completely ****ed by this series, so no chance of getting to sleep any time soon. Time for some player ratings from this (stupid) two test series.

Latham
Positives: Has the ability to see off good bowling. Looks up to it, technically; he's still very young and is still our best opening option by miles.
Negatives: The obvious. Continues to get out after getting himself in. Simply must start cashing in on good starts.
Rating: 4/10.

Guptill
Positives: Scored about 20 more runs than I expected him to. Good fielder. Shares the same birthday with me.
Negatives: Just not a test match player against quality bowling. The same technical flaws he's had all his career continue to plague him. We seem to have this discussion a lot though, and I still don't know who to replace him with - also I think he is worth his spot against poor bowling attacks.
Rating: 2/10

Williamson
Positives: Obviously, our best batsman by miles. Played a really high quality knock in the second innings here.
Negatives: His worst series for a long time. Disappointing dismissal in the first test after looking a million dollars early on. Has looked a bit fidgety since the new year.
Rating: 5/10

Nicholls
Positives: Didn't look overawed by the occasion, seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Good stickability in the first test.
Negatives: Technique looks a bit dodgy, with the angled bat outside off. Looked vulnerable against the extra pace of Pattinson.
Rating: 4/10

McCullum
Positives: Incredible innings in the first dig here. Should have come to a lot more than it did.
Negatives: Might have mentally checked out earlier in the season. ADHD fielding placement and plans, too often looking for the miracle solution rather than the high percentage one. Crap coin tosser.
Rating: 5/10

Anderson
Positives: Showed good application. Was playing a really good knock in the first innings here, though got out in an awful way.
Negatives: A bit block-bash. Probably not yet up to it as a test match number 6. Bowling a bit innocuous.
Rating: 5/10

Watling
Positives: Came back into form with the bat this match. Is crucial to the performance of our batting lineup, so it's really important that he has found that form.
Negatives: Poor first test. Keeping was okay, though probably should have got across to take that edge this morning
Rating: 5/10

Craig
Positives: Batting was handy, though of no consequence to the outcome of the game. Probably bowled better than expected.
Negatives: Bowling was still completely ineffectual. Couldn't do the one thing he is really good at - slip catching - in the first test when it mattered.
Rating: 2/10

Southee
Positives: Didn't get injured again.
Negatives: Completely innocuous with the ball. Didn't swing it, didn't seam it, strayed onto the pads too often. Batted like a ****wit.
Rating: 1/10

Wagner
Positives: So much heart! Gives it everything, something other members of our team could learn from.
Negatives: You could probably say he's a bit one-dimensional, but that would be nitpicking.
Rating: 7/10.

Henry
Positives: Didn't bowl as much short **** as he did on the tour of England. Good showing with the bat.
Negatives: Still bowled too short on average, didn't really move the ball. Lacked penetration.
Rating: 4/10

Boult
Positives: Signs that at least his pace has picked back up a bit.
Negatives: Not threatening at all. Didn't swing the ball, no zip off the pitch and wasn't accurate enough. Really disappointing.
Rating: 2/10.

All in all, a really disappointing series from us. Sure, we've had some injury problems this summer but - Taylor aside - we were theoretically at full strength here and just didn't show up. There's been a few signs over the last year that the team has been declining a bit from the heights of a year ago, and they all came to fruition here. We need the coach/captain/senior players to really think about what has gone wrong, identify the areas we most need to improve and then work like hell at fixing it.

CBF writing much about Australia other than that they've been really impressive. Yeah, they were on the receiving end of three big pieces of luck - the two tosses plus Voges in Wellington - but there was far more than just luck separating the two teams. Their batsmen have made big scores, and their bowlers got the ball to move all over the place and were just relentlessly accurate. Field sets were well thought out too, and notably adapted as things happened.
