I don't think there are major changes needed for this Kiwi side to be highly competitive, perhaps just a few team tweaks. Plus the exposure to some of the Australian batting and bowling may well have long-term benefits. And if it helps at all, the team is quite likeable. :)

I'm so disappointed with how we've played against Aus home and away, with all the talk beforehand, I thought these series would be competitive.

We've been completely outclassed, which is disheartening, I don't know what to think of our players. Are they good enough to perform against the best? I'm starting to doubt it.
Yes, they are - or our best ones are at least - but they need to be in form. Here, they clearly aren't, and there isn't enough quality in the rest of the side to make up for it.

Eh, he did make 97. A very, very hard fought 97 with a lot of close shaves, but sometimes good bowling restricts you to that.
It was a gritty knock, not an effective counter. Some would argue he was lucky to get to finish with that. Neville chance and the DRS decision.

Yes everything is terrible, I get it. Williamson scored 97 last innings but has been 'completely shut down'. Poor guy he has no idea.
The only thing Williamson needs to work on is how to turn the stump line bowling that ties him down into the legside runs that allow players like Root and Kohli to compile in almost any match situation. Williamson even through his great summer has had plenty of patches where the bowlers get ontop of him and his scoring options are shut down and a lot of it comes from the fact that his front foot legside game isn't as good as it needs to be.

One thing is for sure, the passengers (Guptill and Nicolls) need to go...

I really hope they don't intend to hand Nicolls the number 5 spot, he never looked comfortable against bowlers bowling over 140kph.

JFC, there is no way Williamson has been 'worked out'. Bowling a good length just outside off stump has not been a specialist plan to anyone, ever. It's how you bowl to good players. Australia have just been phenomenally accurate with it.

Williamson could stand to learn a lot from Voges IMO.

I agree with this; there are maybe three guys in the side that actual go out there and really scrap for the team in Wagner, Williamson and Watling. The rest just don't seem to have that obdurate need to scrap.

Yeah but that's cricket. Sometimes you can't dominate, but so long as you score the runs anyway it isn't a problem.

NZ have a very poor record over the last five years, against Aus, SA, Eng, Pak and India they have played 26 tests winning just four.
