Starc is a swing bowler, Patto is actually a better bowler in these conditions than he is. Starc would have been dangerous and challenging, no doubt, but if the ball doesn't swing, he's not much chop either.
Stop it.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I think it's been one of those things where NZ really doesn't know how to carry peak form. Like that tri-series vs Aus and SA where Bond destroyed, we were dominating in the early part of that tournament then didn't know how to carry on. Same with the World Cup to some extent. I think the Test side peaked before the UAE and since then it's been struggling to regain the form and fight that it previously had. Home wins against Sri Lanka and the one vs England just kinda papered over the cracks.

i'm hoping a new coach, new bowling coach and new captain will bring about the full performance of the core squad of players.

For a moment I thought you meant this thread
Hopes for this thread were always subterranean tbh. I mean I woke up this morning to 20 pages worth of posts to catch up on despite only missing about an hour's play so thought something interesting might have happened - should have known better.

Good call.

See that there is just trash. You've got a legside-stacked field with no one at point at all and you bowl it short of length a metre wide of off?

Ah, so...why don't we have a slip? Considering we've had one edge through there today already, and our only wicket has been caught at slip.

Prospects of Smith self destructing because he can't get anything but singles on his favored leg side? And also can't waddle across his stumps with the line that's being bowled to him?

And also with Smith not walking across his stumps like usual, and instead poking his front foot towards leg - he's actually more likely to edge one than he normally would. Do we really think meme tactics are our best bet to win?

People really need to change their settings so they view max posts per page. This is a 166 page thread for me.

Yes. We can't rely on line and length outside off stump with this attack.

Smith will get himself out pulling and hooking Wagner. Wagner gets variable lift which makes it harder than it should be to hit him.

The tennis short. It's so ****ing absurd, but it works.
I've always wondered if you got a really light bat with a long handle, and stood besides your stumps and played spinners in particular one handed from a tennis stance, reacting late to the delivery and using top spin wrist movements if you would remove all potential opportunity the spinners had to get you out. You could effectively parry away anything that you didn't want to hit and considering most tennis players can place 200KPH serves that kick and spin, it surely wouldn't be impossible.
