Honestly think most of the criticism Smith was getting up to now is due to people yelling at clouds but don't like this one at all. Its not anything he said (since i didn't hear it) but you can't charge at the ump and then dismissively walk away like that regardless you are playing an under 13 game or this

I don't know you could be drunk or just trolling but you said Smith charged at the ump. Why not go the whole hog and say he run up and punched the umpire in the face.

Deviation from your original argument "I have a feeling the more Aus win the deeper and more inane the criticism will get."

In any event, India were second best in that game/series, so kind of invalidates your argument that winning and non boy-scout behaviour go hand-in-hand.

My bad, thought you were posting random controversies by Australian captains.

Hazelwood, what a dumb *** abusing the on field umpire when it was the third umpire that upheld the (correct) decision..as for Smith, very disappointing behaviour..

Did Haze say something else that hasn't been mentioned? Because I don't see how "who's the ****ing 3rd umpire" is abuse. Dissent, absolutely, and he should cop a whack for the language as well, but it's not like he said "the 3rd umpire is a **** ****".

Smith needs a word in his ear though. Already getting a rep, which is not a good thing.
What? You don't get how 'who's the ****ing umpire' is exactly the same as 'that's a ****ing **** decision, umpire?' in less words? I'm actually okay about the 15% fine, as long as its his first offence (I wouldn't know). Hazelwood seems to me to be pretty good most of the time. It's not a habit like pock mark Starc. It happens, every now and then on field. I don't at all mind a very occasional offender. I'd like to reiterate that, I like Haze and think he is an exceptional cricketer, and I have no issue really with this as a one-off.

Smith needs to have a word in whose ear? His own? This is the guy continuing the great Aussie captain tradition of believing he is an umpire, and better than the ones paid to do so. Smith should set a standard, not have words in ears. He's not an occasional offender. I feel sorry for the day a decent bloke goes into that job, results don't go his way for a bit and he'll be criticised for not being tough enough. When Steve Smith may sleep with the light on for all we know, shows great heart and fight with the bat but is a sook of a leader.

Speaking of pock mark, I'd be fining him as well for his dead **** tweet (now deleted) about players not being able to be passionate and say what's on their mind, like asking who the ****ing umpire is falls under that acceptable banner. For him to say that out of the heat of battle, sitting at home, shows he's a special type of idiot.

Then you get dumb posts like the one TNT made about how the noise about this only becomes louder because Australia are winning, which I found in my time living there is a typical brainless sort of jingoism that comes along with being a fan in that country sometimes (probably generally away from the more learned ones on here).

Perhaps if you’re going to proselytise on poor behaviour you shouldn’t indulge in your own and attack a cricketer based on their looks. Isn’t one of the cardinal rules of good sportsmanship to not make sledging personal?

Well, yeah, but I just see that as dissent, as opposed to personal abuse.

Yes. Probably wasn't clear enough, but I meant that someone should talk to him about this. He's definitely developing a reputation, and that's both a bad look for him as Australian captain and not at all helpful for the team either, for the reasons T_C indicated. Oppositions will target this.
