Not even had halfway through day 2 yet. No need to declare. Only time to consider declaring is whether we have a crack for 15 minutes or so before tea or not or carry on.

England have been caught out before. WI batter 150 overs against us last year (the longest the Windies have batted in 80 years).

I think any more than 650 is excessive because Cook will want the option to not force the follow on.
You always have the option to not force the follow on. It depends really on how England are batting. If they're scoring as fast as they would in a second innings then it's not necessary to declare below 700 really.

They're scoring so quickly that a declaration is wholly unnecessary. At this rate they'll be 800 by the end of the day, with 270 overs left in the match. Bowl the Saffas out in ~120 overs, bat for a session to give the bowlers a short break, and give yourself about 4 sessions to bowl them out again.

they won't declare, they'll wait until voges comes in and is nearing a milestone. smith will nudge cook and say "i'll take it from here alastair"

As well getting the runs now against a tired and demoralised side at 8 an over than waiting until the pitch has more in it and letting rested bowlers stop you scoring a sharp 150 before a second innings declaration.

Just saying, I played a game of ICC in the summer where Stokes at 6 and Bairstow at 7 broke the English record for a 6th wicket stand.
