Yeah, never heard anything about Latham being a T20 prospect. He was just rated as a technically attractive player who started making runs in domestix more quickly than the majority of his contemporaries.

We declared? WTF?!

Clearly hit that.

Ump: "No evidence he's hit this ball."

Goddamit DRS!!!!
Can someone run what happened past me? Am I to presume it has something to do with ball tracking not being available, ie the Bracewell first innings LBW?

The sooner we write a common sense edict into the laws, the better. Rugby League is the same, endless amounts of umpires/referees making decisions to the letter of the law and to save each others' hides, than make the obvious decision based on the evidence in front of them.

hotspot not available, nothing on snicko, clear visible deflection. Conclusion - he hasn't hit it.

I'm assuming they know more about the weather forecast than I do, because otherwise that's a very premature declaration.

Review for lbw from a latham sweepshot. Camera angles clearly showed a definite underage onto his pad (especially the side-on camera where you could clearly see the ball change from an upward trajectory to a downward trajectory. But as with Adelaide, the connection was outside the frame of hotspot and nothing on snicko. Umpire then ruled "no evidence he hit the ball" and asked for ball tracking. Fortunately Uni Oval came to the rescue to ensure a complete balls-up didn't eventuate, and ball tracking was unavailable. Mickey Mouse stuff all around.

Nah Tom Latham was always a test prospect. He was up there with Williamson in terms of how he was rated as a youth.

What the NZ setup did is advise him to be an opener rather than a wicket-keeper bat. We needed our talented batsmen to develop top order techniques. It was absolutely the right call and it's paying dividends after a relatively short period if time.
Nah he wasn't. He was another talent who could hit boundaries and played at five because he wasn't good enough for the top order. The kind of player who is in and out of the team before reestablishing himself as a 32 year old journeyman, who plants his front foot down half a metre forward and when isn't pummelling medium paces and b rate spinners, pulls length balls into the stumps.

We were always going to delcare at this time.

Not his fault the batsmen couldn't score at a good clip.

Aus would have put the opposition under the sword.

Right, so exactly what I thought about an umpire not using common sense. Why is hotspot not available (edit - that stupid down the track issue) and why wasn't ball tracker available the other day? 4 Tests just went on in India where the best side won and I'm not reading any articles about technology. Maybe they had it right all along.
