***Official*** Sri Lanka in New Zealand 2015

Can't help but feel a tad frustrated with the post McCullum crumble, but 400 plus on the first day puts us in the box seat. Squeeze it up to 450ish and we have some decent scoreboard pressure. Fair dues to Sri Lanka though that pre-new ball Chameera spell was fantastic. Draw looking likely, University Oval wadding into McLean park forgone conclusion territory... :P

Highlights were up quickly: 409/8 | BLACKCAPS vs SRI LANKA

You might need to sign in. Also the first session video isn't any good.

Still a good day for us. I think even if the total ends up sub-optimal, they scored quickly and will back themselves to score enough runs in the second innings to set SL a difficult target, hopefully without running out of time. Looking forward to seeing our four quicks bowl on this.

Bahnz is right though that with Watling not scoring many the lower middle order looks very shaky, especially when they end up facing the second new ball. Bracewell has done reasonably well though I laughed when the radio commentator said "Bracewell cuts for four, well... more of a half forward drive to the short ball in the end" as that's exactly what Bracewell plays instead of a cut. That NZ front foot domestic technique.

Nah, plenty of movement on offer both through the air and off the pitch. You only had to see how hard Mathews was making things to know that this is a surface that Bouthee should enjoy tomorrow. It could of course pancake out on days 3 and 4, but definitely wouldn't say the draw is looking likely yet.

Reckon our quicks will cut them to shreds tomorrow. Not even Williamson ever really looked in on that pitch.
Agreed - I caught half an hour of it with Williamson in on around 50 and the bowling wasn't that flash, too many get of jail deliveries to let the batsman off strike, and creidt where credit is due some skillful batting to get off strike. When I got home the Sri Lankan's looked awesome with the new ball.

LOL at Tim walking out at number 9. He is ahead of Wagner as Tim has more intent.

I saw most of the day, Sri Lanka was very good with the new ball. The ball that got Guptill would get wickets most of the time. They were alright most of the day but they did bowl too many pressure relieving deliveries, especially short and wide outside off. Go Guptill and Williamson could, and did, just wait for the four balls and block/nudge everything else.

I like how SL have gone for a genuine bat at 7 but when he comes in he really needs to share a decent partnership with the established batsman; because I feel as though SL have 3 genuine number 11 and Herath who is a fun number 9 or 10.

What's Jayasundera like?

I was really worried that SL were going to be minnow like. But this has been a decent test match level performance. Only one century. They are welcome to come and play us every year.

BTW and this comment sponsored by Heef - Russell Arnold with great quality comments in the short time I was listening.

Going to be a bit **** in two months time when people start saying Guptill's innings here doesn't count, as though it wasn't the top score by miles.

And on a pitch where it was doing a bit.

Tbf though to those people in the future I was preparing myself to come online and discount his runs, until I noticed the odd fizzer.

Watched the first session before I went to bed and thought we did OK in first session but as many have said ,too many loose deliveries to ease ant built up pressure. I thought the luck was certainly with guptill as there were quite a few chances that went his way but that's cricket I suppose(he did play some very nice shots too tbf) . Pleased with the pace that chameera is producing and just hope he stays injury free ..gutted to see that NZ had scored 400+ when I woke up this morning but at least we managed to get nine wickets I suppose.
We will find it really tough against the quality seamers of NZ but lets see what tomorrow brings..well done to NZ on playing aggressive test cricket!
@NUFAN- not really sure about Jayasundera TBH,he has done OK in domestic circuit but difficult to see how he will handle the step up- could say that for most of our batsmen lol
