the only statement playing some shots would send would be "we haven't learned anything so far on this tour"
No the point I was trying to make is that chasing 480 here is impossible. No one is going to get there, irrespective of what happened in this series so far, even if they were 2-0 up by now. I didn't at that time expect them to be able to end Day 4 with 2 wickets, based on the evidence of their batting so far. So what I was saying was for them to try to aim for a respectable total like 250 plus, something they haven't achieved even once in this series.

Anyway, I am enjoying this batting, there is an old school charm about this, from the 40s and 50s, which I only read in books and articles. Although I am not sure if this will ultimately work. 1 wicket and it might come crumbling down.

They've done this sort of thing before you know. Several times.

Yes I am fully aware of that. I was talking specifically in the context of this series where they struggle to cross 100.

They've played 72 overs already, with a bit of bad light in their favor they might make it. No way are they winning though so I'm not really worried.

Haven't watched any of this game. However, seeing SA's resilience on the scorecard (72 runs off 72 overs), I do wonder how much better SA would have played in the series had they known what they were getting into with the pitches being the turners which they were. For instance, when Steve Waugh's men came in 2001, they were more than prepared for the conditions. Barring the miracle of Eden, they had it in the bag. In any case, it's great to have SA stone wall like this. Lesser teams would have crumbled by the last test of such a difficult and long tour.

India win paying 1.44 looks well worth it. Doing the business for a session doesn't mean these two (and it is mostly going to have to be these two) can dead bat a whole other day.

India have this in the bag. All it takes is one ball.
Agreed, Duminy will be a pain if he bats like these 2, but none of the rest you'd back to be able to stonewall long enough to get them to a draw.

And yeah I do remember the debut of Faf, but he has been a farce this tour, don't think the Indian spinners will be to concerned no matter his approach.

Also, I don't find Ab particularly convincing against Ashwin and Jadeja. Even today I thought he looked a bit raw against them. Tomorrow I can see either of them getting through his defence. Maybe it's just the difference in technique affecting my perception but Amla has definitely looked more solid.

We need 2 wickets in the first session. The remaining 6 in the next 2 sessions won't be a problem.

There seems to be quite a few genuine umpiring errors just from reading about this game, are India still doing the "we don't believe in DRS" thing?

Can't wait for dozens of articles saying 'WOW batsmen can bat like THIS in the modern age?'
