Wouldn't bet against Latham going big. He needs to do it so I can win my bet with Hurricane. So it's basically locked in.

I reckon (ok I hope) Watling does something special with the bat - produce a blinder (no pun intended if visibility is poor) by batting through against Starc and the 2nd new ball under lights. The best world's best keeper batsman is due.

Mitchell Santner poised for surprise debut as Black Caps turn to spin in Adelaide test | Stuff.co.nz

The lanky 23-year-old left-armer from Hamilton is poised to join the New Zealand test ranks at the expense of Matt Henry in the only change from the draw in Perth, which left the Black Caps needing victory to level the series at 1-1. Key swing bowler Trent Boult looked to be moving freely and should play after passing a fitness test on his injured back.

Captain Brendon McCullum earlier hinted at a change, then it was virtually confirmed at training under the Adelaide Oval floodlights as Santner played a prominent role. At one stage during his batting stint, coach Mike Hesson had a long chat with his allrounder who will slot in at either six or seven and strengthen the New Zealand batting. Santner averages 58 with the ball in 22 first-class matches but can tie down an end as he showed in a composed limited overs debut in England in June.

my theory behind Guppers finally getting runs is that the pink ball under lights will suit his ODI style.... also the fact he was paying nearly 3x as much Ross, and fair enough too

If it's swinging under lights, Guptill's going to bitterly disappoint you there. For the pink ball in the daylight on a real road though, I think Guptill's not actually a bad bet.

How often do they lose the toss?

Amla 63.7%
McCullum 62%
Dhoni 56.7%
Cook 56.1%
Ramdin 54.8%
Rahim 52.2%
Misbah 47.7%
Mathews 34.8%
Smith 20%

FFS Smith and Mathews are way too lucky.
I thought that was Graeme Smith at 20% for a minute.

Santner AND Craig, really? This after Henry and Bracewell put in a much improved show on day 5 in Perth, and Wagner's efforts in the warm up game?

Even more onus on BMac to win-toss-bat-big then.

Howsie

International Captain
Argh. He's a batting all rounder, New Zealand obvs don't feel comfortable going into a test like this with Doug Bracewell playing at seven.

Hopefully this will keep SMarsh out of the team for the rest of the summer.

Top 5 things about this Test.

1 The opportunity to see the great Peter Siddle take his 200th Test wicket.

2 The use of the night watchman. I really think its a more obvious tactic than usual.

3 The old scoreboard

4 Channel 9' love of the Marsh brothers if they somehow bat together and can string together a double figure partnership

5 Phil Hughes tributes. Number 1 was in order but the rest arent

In a way appropriate that these two teams are playing one year on from Hughes' death. NZ were in the middle of the Sharjah test last year and put the bouncers and celebrations away.
