One player Bond had been particularly impressed by was young Canterbury left-arm seamer Ed Nuttall, who will miss the start of the T20 campaign with a hamstring injury.
Nuttall was in the New Zealand A squad, which faced Sri Lanka A last month, and was a member of the New Zealand Cricket winter training squad.
"He's a unique bowler. He's made massive strides physically.
"The next thing for him now is that next season, kicking on. There's no doubt in terms of his work ethic and talent. If he can stay fit and continue to put performances on the board, he's going to go a long way."
Yep, NcCullum's going to hand the baton onto Devcich shortly. Keeping those younger and wetter kids right out of it.something vaguely resembling flight and turn in that
I'm trying to think of guys who have come in at 18, fared well straight away and not gone on to play for NZ. I guess Boam might be one, but he probably would be in there now if he was still playing. Phillips debuted for Auckland last year & no doubt will re-emerge. The last bunch of guys I can think of who came in & did well at 18 were Williamson, Southee & Anderson. Ryder also had an excellent season opening with Spearman.
Yes, I've previously wondered what happened to him as he obviously had a lot of ability. That was a pretty good under 19 team. Andrew de Boorder is another from that side who probably could have pressed for national selection.Former teammate of mine (talking Milo Cup haha) Michael Tairaoa. Michael Taiaroa | New Zealand Cricket | Cricket Players and Officials | ESPN Cricinfo One first class match when he was 19. One innings of 1 and one "absent" - never played for CD again. Was part of the Williamson/Anderson/Southee/Boult U19 Team - he scored a 100 against Ishant Sharma/Chawal's lot. 2nd Youth Test: New Zealand Under-19s v India Under-19s at Dunedin, Jan 27-30, 2007 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo
EDIT More of a U19 that didn't make, rather than the players you mention above, but thought it was interesting none the less..
Have some footage of Kuggs on astroturf. Bouncers from him on concrete do not look fun.Oof, that nut from Kuggs was something else.
That spell was quality tbf. I'm not really a Kuggs fan, but if he could bowl like that more often, he'd be bloody handy. Was moving the ball away at 145 clicks. Wellington really didn't have a clue. most, as you would expect looked like club batsman.Oof, that nut from Kuggs was something else.
Shane Gadsdon would be the strangest in recent times. Two first class games at 17 and never plays again. He wasn't special or anything but I can't remember too many players who got their only taste of first class cricket while they were still at school.Duffy would be the most recent one to start young and really go well. He was 17, I think? Don't remember him getting dropped as such either.
Bowled well last night too.
I thought Bracewell looked good, even if just in the videos of his boundaries. A couple of those shots are pretty outrageous. So much power.
that's about average for an 18 year old isn't it? should be a nice solid 135kph when he's 25.Clarkson's typical speed was 124kph ftr, in this Stags game that's on.
