***Official*** Australia in Ireland and England 2015 (limited overs)

The Battlers Prince

International Vice-Captain
Good to see the improved Wade letting my man Agar down.

Glad I didn't stay up to watch the match and my recorder got turned off. Doesn't sound like a match o want to see

Anyone know why Pattinson only bowled 6 overs, despite the obvious reasons that Marsh and Maxwell bowled some overs?

Pattinson looked quite good in his first (4 over) spell despite numerous swinging wides. He was getting some significant swing at well over 90 mph.

No reason. If you have that many toys you might as well play with all of them.
His first spell he looked quite threatening. Fast and swing. Big swing too. He should have bowled more than 4 overs then and there.

I know he was hit in his next 2 overs at the crease, but he is a premier fast bowler, captains should have confidence in him to bowl again after that. But in my opinion, he should have bowled more before that given Cummins and Starc in the team.

Oh well, it was good seeing him bowl again. He is a class act. Hopefully he does not crush New Zealand at the end of the year.

Probably underdone. Along with an exhausted Starc, and a Cummins who is simply not international standard.

massively overrated bowling attack atm

150% agreed, Pattinson is clear class however unlike the pathetic NSW scum as his fellow seamers and needs only the finest backup. Hastings and Siddle need to be the 2nd and 3rd seamers.

Also, the rest of the team really do need to be replaced. Replace Agar with Holland, a 4th seamer with Scott Boland and get Cameron White in there instead of Steven Smith who is by all means just a gimmicky meme no.3 player and preferably Handscomb and David Hussey to replace Joe "Slow is my only method" Burns and Bailey.

Once this is done Australia will be fielding their top side in terms of skill.

is this meant to be like your **** maxwell jokes?
No. Cummins shouldn't even be close to selection. In ODIs I can forgive the selectors but drafting him into the Test squad was embarrassing.

And I never joke about Maxwell. All it will take is a bit of maturity and he could be world class.

I agree with you that a fit Pattinson will overtake Cummins in the selection rankings for tests. I think a lot if not most people would. But Cummins got his spot on the Ashes test tour through many players injured didn't he? He never played a match so its not that embarrassing.

Maxwell could well have another chance at the Australian test team with all the recent retirements and M Marsh continuing to display that he below international standard.

We are talking about the same Cummins, I presume

IF he stays fit, chances are that he'll be one of the first players on any Oz team-sheet for the next decade or more

Just hope that they reintroduce him to the test side at home this summer rather than waste him in Bangladesh

Pattinson's a brilliant red ball bowler but a pretty meh white ball bowler (especially in ODIs).

I am a massive fan of Patto and believe that he can be a a match-winner at test level in the future

I would also be ok with his selection for odis IF he was remotely match fit and IF the attack was more balanced e.g. we had a Faulkner/Watto to pick up the slack

Picking him in his worst format when he has basically been out for the better part of 12 months and with minimal holding support is simply ludicrous & asking for trouble

Why the **** they just cant leave him alone to get miles in his legs in less demanding circumstances is anyone's guess

Both Maxwell and Marsh played. What are you on about? There were three front line pacers, a front line spinner in Agar (Agar probably played in place of Faulkner and Marsh took Watto's spot for a premier tournament final team). Any slack was well catered for in the bowling department even if Agar at 8 left the batting looking brittle. Pattinson only bowled six overs. There was slack.

Maybe they think 6 overs in a JAMODI is a way to get some miles in his legs. His first spell looked sharp and dangerous.

I admire your enthusiasm of Pat Cummins being an ATG Aussuie great over the next ten years, but with only 8 FC matches and only one five for, (yes his test debut five for), I reckon its a bold call to single him out as such a fantastic proposition. He has to get in the team first. And then display that he belongs there. He well could. He is sharp and can take wickets. But how many runs he gives away for those wickets, and his ability to stay match fit are real concerns.

Plus with Johnson not yet retired, Stark, Hazelwood, Pattinson, Bird, Siddle et al there is competition for spots.

If Pattinson can stay fit, the next ten years for him, especially in tests, look to be very promising. He is a class act, a fast bowler with so many weapons in his armoury.

Maxwell & Marsh are not holding bowlers whilst Agar is a rank novice

Cummins is 21, bowling 96 mph and every single so-called expert rates him in exactly the same way that I do - kid is a lock for tests this summer IF he is fit irrespective of who is available

As a NZ fan, I can only hope that Australia pick Pat Cummins over a fit and firing James Pattinson.

Take out Pat Cummins test debut, and that is 7 first class match for 19 wickets. His most recent effort was getting three tail end wickets after this...

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/743961.html

That then leaves 6 FC matches for 16 wickets. Batsmen around the world are trembling.

Pat Cummins could one day become a great bowler. He has pace. He can do something with that. He had a fantastic test debut match. But I still think its far too soon in his career with too few matches played by him with a reasonably ordinary technique and no "lethal" deliveries meaning an ordinary amount of wickets taken results with the red ball to lay claim that he will be a special bowler for the next decade for Australia, even if fit. Pat does not even have a Mendis or Mustifazr "special" delivery to get behind the hype from. Maybe he could learn discipline to bowl effectively in the channel to get wickets at a cheap price. But its so many maybes.

I genuinely believe that most batsmen would rather face Pat Cummins with a red ball than James Pattinson.

Eyes not spreadsheets
Who'd have thought that?

You look at scorecards, remove the good ones and then someone is a bad bowler.

Or, you could, you know, watch games to make a judgement on a bowler?
