I don't think any team has ever let slip so many comprehesive match-winning positions over the course of 18 months. Has to be some sort of record.

Was talking about the fact that if SC players don't succeed outside SC, it''s considered a massive black mark for them, while lots of Australian and English cricketers get away with mediocre records in SC. Was also saying that it shows a total lack of understanding of how tough it is to bat vs spin in the subcontinent.

Always fun to listen to Gavaskar when he gets annoyed about stuff like this.
Erm, I don't buy it. The thing is technically it's easier to go lower and adopt to lesser bounce than it is to higher bounce outside Asia. You have more people from subcontinent failing outside than vice versa. Pontings record has a big blotches despite succeeding in other countries in Asia as he failed in India. In the scrutiny filled eyes of the cricket fans nothing gets unnoticed.

Myth. Don't listen to Ian Chappell.

It's not the lowness of the bounce that is difficult to adapt to, it is the slowness of the pitch and the grip that spinners get.

Just in: Saha and Vijay ruled out of rest of tour. Naman Ojha and Karun Nair called up #SLvIND

from cricinfo twitter.

Thought Nair was a middle order bat?

Dhawan will probably be fit then.

Wonder whether Ojha will debut if Rahul keeps decently. Could bump him down to 6 then and make Pujara open.

Yes, this may mean Pujara will open with Rahul and Nair has been brought on as the middle-order reserve.

Good to see Nair getting a call up. Not sure re Ojha. Mainly because of his keeping. Looked awkward whenever I saw him.

So what's the consensus on promoting Rahane to 3? He's not complained and gone ahead with his job, but is it fair to change him around after he's proven to be an excellent 5?

Moving Rohit Sharma to 5 doesn't make sense when you consider he's taking up Pujara's place. How about Pujara at 3, Rahane at 5 and Rohit can play at 6 when we need the specialist batsman?

Most batsmen like to be given a shot at 3 though, at least initially. Don't know what his mindset is.

Whatever it takes!!!
I think Indian test side as a whole seems to gain a lot by having Pujara at 3 and Rahane at 5. At the same time, as an individual batsman, I am sure Rahane will feel he is more likely to get an opportunity to bat long and make bigger scores at 3 than at 5, especially given how committed Kohli and Co. are to the 5 bowler theory. Ultimately, it will boil down to how well Nohit can bat at 5. If he can really be consistent and fulfill the undoubted potential, then the present order will stay and Pujara will have to make do with batting at 5 whenever India play 6 batsmen or wait for someone else to fail to come in.

All said though, I would rather see Kohli at 3, Rohit at 4 and Rahane at 5. I think it suits their individual strengths as batsmen a lot more perfectly than any other order.

Dhawan Vijay and Saha out

I think they will go with:

Rahul
Pujara
Rahane
Kohli
Rohit
Ojha (+)
Ashwin
4 bowlers

Tbh. Bhuvi might be in for Binny too.

Lets lose this match first before we discuss lineups for the next one tho.
