Pretty sure this is the latest a CL final has ever been.

The Prem finishing three weeks after the football league was unprecedented (usually one week) so that was a drag anyway. The whites' last game was 2nd May, we were mathematically relegated on 25th April, so everything since has just been one big unnecessary drag for me personally. We're closer now to our first pre-season friendly than we are to or last game.
Right on. Think the early championship win for Chelsea also contributed.

Probably. Despite my ambivalence to the prem as a whole there's no doubt a title race to the end would have kept me at least slightly interested

Haha, didn't even realise England were playing today until I opened my laptop just now and saw the headline.

Liverpool have officially signed Danny Ings. One of those non-descript signings that there's not much to say about other than it's happened.

I suppose they were so impressed with Rickie Lambert they decided that signing mediocre players was something they needed to persevere with.

Yes, a thoroughly inexpedient experience that, and one I am enduring presently. I hate all the things.

Is he really better than Borini? Borini was more impressive at Sunderland last season than Ings was at Burnley this year.

But being young, English and free, there's not an awful lot to lose.

Not free, assuming Burnley offered him at least the same terms as he was already on (which they'd be idiotic not to even if they knew he wouldn't sign)

Sturridge, Ings, Lambert, Origi, Balotelli and Borini. All for a team who play with one at the top.

Rodgers isn't committed to one-up-front at all, it's just that their strikers were so **** this season. They played two up front when they had two good strikers.

Also Borini's original position was wide-forward.

Speaking of Origi: Liverpool striker Divock Origi named in the Ligue 1 worst team of the season [L'Equipe] - Football (soccer) highlights, goals, videos & clips | 101 Great Goals. Sorry if it was here that I saw this.

Pretty much all of those players have had spells playing as wide forwards at some point in their career too. Probably not Lambert though I guess.

From what I've seen of Ings he is better than Borini. Borini works his socks off, makes a lot of runs, is a good finisher with a decent shot...but he's more or less woeful at everything else. The kind of technique that makes you wonder how he got so far at this level.

Pretty sure every Liverpool fan would be much happier having Ings. Financially it makes a lot of sense as well.

I'd be surprised if Borini and Lambert are in the team next season and the only reason Balotelli will be is because no one wants him.

If Ings has been bought as Liverpool's main striker after Sturridge then it is really not good enough for a side that wants to come in the top 4, if he has been bought as anything other than that then it is a really bad move for Ings.

I think he's 3rd/4th choice.

Sturridge, Benteke (looks likely), Ings, Balotelli and Origi.

I disagree with Uppercut that Borini was more impressive than Ings in 13/14, but with that said it's a bit of a moot point as I don't think either were particularly impressive in their respective seasons. There is some degree of uncertainty with Ings as he is young and has time on his side but I really can't see him making the grade at anything above a mid-table club. I'm far from the biggest fan of Balotelli (the footballer) but I still think he is considerably ahead of both, although once you factor in his general idiocy I'd probably less rather have him in the squad tbf.

Agree with Pothas that it's definitely a bad deal for one party.
